Back to Basics - Again

Posted in Household stuff
Well, for today anyway....  Normally for breakfast my kids eat toast with peanut butter and honey.  It's their favorite, and it's good for them.  It's usually homemade bread, it's healthy peanut butter, and it's raw honey.  But, since I've been pregnant, like so many other things, our breakfasts have gone to the birds.  My poor children have been forced to eat cold cereal and instant oatmeal.  It gets worse.  As of yesterday, we don't even have any milk to put in the cereal.    (I really don't feel bad, I just thought it would be funny to blog about).
It's hard for me to get to the store for many reasons.  I don't like bringing all the kids with.  It's really, really cold out.  It's almost always snowing.  But the biggest - I hurt too much.  I can't be on my feet very long with out feeling the wonderful joys of pregnancy.  We have been eating out too much and forced to eat junky meals.  So, today, I rummaged through the freezer.   I found containers of left over beans, taco meat, and green peppers, so I figured it was about time to make chili.  I almost never make chili with fresh ingredients.  Being able to use up leftovers to make a meal is one of those things that make me proud.  Yeah, I'm a weird one.  And since it's easier to bake bread than go to the store, I buckled down and baked a loaf.  I also went through my recipe book and pulled out the recipes that I want to make in the next few days.  Recipes that I have ingredients for.    It's just been so hard for me this pregnancy.  I don't like very many things.  I have been trying new things because I know already that I don't like the old things.  And at almost every meal, I'll put a bite in my mouth and just want to cry because I don't like it.  It gets really frustrating.
Anyway, for lunch today, I pulled out some things from the freezer that just don't get eaten because they are very small servings.  I can't make a meal out of them, so they just sit there taking up room.  N and C had some fish and chips and I had some potato patties.  I also pulled out some pumpkin that I forgot was in there.  I'll make pumpkin bread out of that.  That makes a good breakfast or snack.  I wanted to do more in there, but I'm running out of time and all I feel like doing is laying down.  I think I'll go read to the boys now.  Might was well use resting time usefully.

Man, I feel like that most of the time with my pregnancy now, too! Just don't want anything, have no clue whatsoever what to make for dinner, and planning meals for a week is a dreadful activity...Only every once in while there would be something I actually like, and that is usually when someone else is cooking it! And at least you have the excuse of having 4 kids and very cold weather not to go to the store...:)
Love you bunches! :)

I am sorry you are feeling so poorly. Praying for strength and stamina and good tasting food for you. BTW, I am going to be in Bloomington from the Middle of May through the middle of August (if we all can stand to be in tight quarters for that long. I hope to see you sometime!

I. Am. So. Sore. DH asks, "Where?" And I can only answer, "Yes." But hey, look, we're short-timers! Soon we'll be not-so-sore, and only sleep-deprived! But our children will be well-fed once again. Yay! :-)

Hi. I found my way here from Lois' blog.

After reading your comment I decided I wanted to make you feel better. So if you'd like to see another messy house . . . come on over ( http://itsblahg.blogspot.com -see "The Real Deal" 2/26/08 entry).

Oh I so remember the heaviness of pregnancy! I hope you're hanging in there.

I love all the pictures you've posted of your kids. The bunk beds are really cute! We need to get some for my 5 year old and 2 year old soon. Where did you find yours? The color is perfect.

It was great to read all of your updates. I haven't checked in on your for quite awhile so I had some reading to do! LOL

Hugs,
Karla

Oh, my! Are you sure *I* didnt just write that post??? I want to eat all the time, but WHAT to eat?! We need groceries badly, and I dont want to go. Its cold and to get all the kids out when they arent feeling totally up to par.... and I just have NO energy! A trip to the store would wipe me out for the rest of the day! I do have some things I could cook.... but I really wish someone else would do it for me!!! Ugh. I'm just hoping if I can make it to my 2nd trimester, maybe I'll get a *little* energy back? Hopefully!......

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
