They're Free

A little nervous at first.

Rooster on the look out.

Today was the fourth day that they were let outside.  They were so anxious to get out this morning.  And they ended up staying out until sundown.  I had to shoo them into the coop because they were still hanging around just outside the door.
Their favorite spot is our compost bin.  There are a couple of holes there that they like to "bathe" in.  There are also a line of bushes that they can take shelter in.  Hopefully they will continue to go in every night and not one day decide to roost in the trees.  I don't want to have to chase them back into the coop.  The rooster scares me.

Nov. 8, 2008 - Hi there

Just dropping in after your very encouraging comment on my son's blog (homeschoolbogger.com/Spitfires) Thanks for taking the time to comment. I think it is great when adults can encourage our young people. Thanks again.

I smiled at your chook entry - we've had exactly the same story. Our chooks mostly make it back at night time, encouraged by the delivery of food scraps. But if we forget to go down just on dark one or two will be roosting in the jasmine bush! We know where to go and find them now. We need to have them in the chook house because of snakes and dingoes/wild dogs.

Our rooster didn't fare too well - it got too bossy and started going for the kids. It became a lesson in self-sufficiency, science/anatomy and being a good ol' farmer!

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 1/2 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L 1, and a new little blessing due Jan 31. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
