Brotherly Love?

Posted in Family

My two boys were fighting today.  D, who is 7, loves to boss around N, who is 4.  He yells and lectures him.  So N has his fill and traps D by putting his arms around him and holding onto the gate that is on the other side of D.  D gets mad and pushes him off, throwing N against the cabinet.  N falls down crying, gets up and goes to attack D.  That's when my mom stepped in.  I was pretty clueless as to what to do.  I thought my mom handled it well.  What do you do when your kids fight?  Or how do you keep them from fighting?

To keep the peace sometimes I have to seperate children that are not getting along. I also make sure to discuss why they are not gettign along. If it is a sharing issue I will the thing involved away. Nothing is more important than the way we treat one another. Our treasures are in heaven so i try to stress that as I explain that their actions reflect what is in theri heart at the moment. It has been effective as sometimes my children are mad before they realize what they are doing to one another.

Be Blessed,

If it's a minor argument, I let the children work it out. I've tried to explain that they need to talk to one another FIRST and then come to me ... but if someone starts pushing the other, I immediately step in. DS3.5 is unbelievably strong and could seriously hurt DD5 --- plus physical violence is simply not tolerated. To keep arguing kids from doing it, we just separate them. They can't stand it for longer than 5 minutes then apologize to one another and play. Sometimes, I'll put them in different rooms for Alone Time. Or I will do something with one child (like workbook-y stuff) and have the other one entertain himself.

Can that be done?! Turn on the GameCube-LOL! Just kidding.

Usually I tell my older one he has to be an example. I tell him that a leader doesn't fight, they lead. He REALLY is always talking about how one day he is going to lead everyone to heaven:) I am BLESSED!!!

God Bless,
Amber

I'm so glad we don't fight sis:)

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
