Crawling Out of Her Pants

Lil' L
Lil' L is almost 8 months now. Can you believe it? I can't. I still think of her as such a baby, so when she does things that show signs of human life, I am shocked. Things like learning to wave. She waved for the first time at our friends who came to visit. And today, we were shocked to see she knows how to sign please. She was sitting in her highchair banging her hands and screaching, and then she signed please. I don't think she was asking for anything, I think she was just practicing. But it was really cute when my hubby was trying to take a picture of her and he said, "say cheese" and she signed please.
I also love how she tries to imitate things. She will tilt her head to the side, scrunch up her face, open her mouth and shhh if we do it first. Or even if we don't.

She crawls now. Hubby insists I can't say that becuase it's not the hands and knees crawl. She soldier crawls. I told him that since she doesn't "crawl" I guess I don't have to worry about keeping things off the floor.
In December, she still wasn't sleeping through the night. Well, actually, at about 3 or 4 months she was, and then she stopped after about a month. In Dec, she was waking up 2x a night to nurse. I tried to wean her to once, which worked for a couple of nights, but I couldn't keep up with letting her cry. When my family was staying with us, she was up 3x a night! I think she knew I had to get her right away so she wouldn't wake up the whole house. As soon as my family left, I kicked her out of my bedroom. It was cold turkey time. My hope was that hubby wouldn't hear her cry down the hall. It worked! It took her two nights and now she sleeps through the night no problem. Life is so much better now. My problem now is that the rest of the kids are all in one room. Princess C teases and kicks N while they are supposed to be sleeping. We put her to bed before the older boys, but she takes forever to fall asleep!
Lil' L started solids at about 6 1/2 months. She doesn't really like much. She likes Cherrios and bread with cream cheese. I know I shouldn't give her wheat yet, but she does not like to be spoon fed! It's really hard finding little finger food for a 7 mo old. If you have any suggestions, please, let me know.
I think that's all the milestones Lil' L has reached the past month. I hope you enjoyed this episode of Lil' L.

Smiling Pictures
Lil' L was all smiles the other day. She was so smiley she didn't even notice the weird metal object flashing lights at her.

Yesterday, Lil' L turned over! I left her on the floor in the frontroom. She was playing nicely and then fell asleep. After awhile I heard her make some noise and then quiet down some. I went to check on her and this is what I found:

I was so shocked! When ever I put her on her stomach she cries. She hates it there. And yet, when she put herself there, she was having a grand old time.
On a Toddler B note, I forgot that he also fell asleep in his sister's chair:

3 Months
It has come to my attention that I have not posted any pics of Lil' L for quite some time. Well, now is a good time to post being that she is now 3 months old. WAAAHHHH!!!! 3 months already!! Slow down, baby! I need to enjoy you!

Isn't that the absolute sweetest picture ever? I would post a picture of her wonderful smile, but when she sees the camera, she gets quite fascinated with it and then won't smile for anything.

Quite the weird look, huh?
I looked around for some photos of her, and it appears as though she isn't getting enough attention. Most of the pictures I have of her, she is in her car seat. The one up above, we were at the arboretum and I have lots of pics of the kids doing fun things, but all she did was sleep. And the one I am about to post I took when we went to the beach. Once again, I have lots of pics of the kids doing beachy things, but being a baby, she was stuck in the shade in the stroller. She doesn't look too upset, does she?

Oh and here she is at a restaurant. Can't ya tell?

I guess my mission for the week is to take some pictures of poor Lil' L. Oh, and maybe write in her baby book...

Gigantor Baby
I took Lil' L for her 1 mo appointment. Last week? Two weeks ago? I can't keep track... Anyway. She was a whopping 12 lbs 1 oz. And she was 23 3/4 inches long. So in a little over a month, she gained 3 lbs and grew 2 1/4 inches. Is that astronomical or what? Her height and weight are on the top line of the chart, but her little head is just below average.

You like her little snarl? The attitude goes well with her shirt.

What's Happening
Boy, blogging just isn't on the top of my priority list right now. I wonder why....

Life is pretty busy around here. My hubby gets three weeks off to help me. Unfortunately, he has strep. There goes my help! It's quite difficult trying to juggle 5 kids now. One keeps me up to the wee hours, and another wakes me up and the crack of dawn. Luckily the older ones have been fairly good at waiting for the breakfast. Poor neglected children.... I think I'm going to ask my mom to make a whole lot of muffins to put in the freezer this weekend. I should have done that last week. That would make a healthier breakfast than sugar cereal. My mom will have a three day weekend so she will be able to help out some. But not much. Because she is sick, too! Can you believe all these people?! Getting sick when I need them most?! How rude. Oh well, I'll live. My sleepy head is starting to stir. Gonna go put the other kids to bed so I can attend to her without three heads shoving in front of poor Lil' L's head. "Hello L" "Hello L" "Hello L" "Hello L" and so on...

They all love her so much.

Introducing
May. 18, 2008
Baby Time?
I woke up this morning with contractions about 20 minutes apart (and some bloody show, if you're interested). And that's where I am still at.
Today would be a good day to have the baby. Our car is in the shop so we need my mom to be home. She still has to work all next week. Plus, my sister is off work today, so she could come watch the kids. There are no games or practices. There is the hit-a-thon. D's is at 4 something and they way things look, he will be there. But even if he's not, it's not the end of the world. So how long is this supposed to take? With my first baby, 10 years ago, I was in labor for about 29 hours or so. I was kinda hoping this would be a liiiiitle faster. With pitocin, I think my longest labor was 8 hours. But the most frustrating thing right now is the fact that I'm not in labor, labor. Ya know? Is this going to last for days? For the next week until I get induced on Sat? That would be insane! And then of course there is the fear of what if this is real labor? What if this is all my body needs and then suddenly I'm gonna be like, uh, oh, gotta push! Yeah, yeah, I'm a nut. You'd think by number 5 I'd have this whole thing figured out. Oh well.
Please pray the pace picks up soon. Thanks.

Labor Prayers
My doctor gave me a deadline. If I don't go into labor by Sat, she will induce me. Please pray that my body somehow remembers what it is supposed to do and actually goes into labor. I went into labor for D, but had to be induced for the rest of them.

Room Set Up
Today was the day we were to close on our new house and begin moving in. Sniff, sniff... Instead we spent the day cleaning our bedroom and making room for the new baby. We moved furniture, cleaned and set up the pack and play. I must say, we made one big mess. I don't know that we will ever be ready for the baby. We definitely are not first timers who set everything up in the first trimester. We have learned, however, that all the baby needs is me. All I expect to be doing is nursing and rocking, so who needs all the other things to get in the way? Hubby will have plenty of time to set up all the other things during his three weeks paternity leave. I guess I'll go, I keep losing my train of thought.... Man, I still have such a long way to go! These last few weeks are going slower than the first 8 months!

Baby Name Help!
I am desperate. I need a name for my child! I don't know how large families keep coming up with names that they like. For some strange reason, I keep liking names that have already been taken by family members. Why? Maybe cause I'm just plain crazy. I also tend to like any name that starts with a C. Well, if you know my sister-in-law, you will understand why I really need to stay away from C names. We made an exception for Princess C because we couldn't come up with anything else. So, please, tell me some suggestions. I would love a name with a great meaning, not in the top 10, and not really weird. But, I'll settle for a name both me and hubby can agree on. Go ahead, give me your best shot. By the way, hubby doesn't like anything. Not one. single. name. Good luck!

Pregnancy + Spring =
What do you get when you have a pregnant lady in the spring? A really clean house.... nope, that's not it. A lot of half finished projects. Mixing the nesting instinct and the spring cleaning urges are not good. I just want to do more, and then get exhausted, and then think of something else to do, and then get exhausted.... and so on. Add four kids in the mix who are "helping" and then you get a frustrated pregnant spring cleaning momma who can't get things done fast enough. Oh well. I still have plenty of time. Unfortunately. 4 weeks till I'm due, and another 1 and a half until my doc tortures me and hooks me up to pitocin. Man, I hope I go into labor myself this time. Almost every evening I have contractions. They start painless and sometimes they get painful. Every time I walk into a store, I have a contraction. Not sure why it's only walking into a store.... I so hope this is a good sign.

Before Baby - Goal 1
One of my goals lately has been to get Toddler B to grow up. I've realized that we baby him. And he is over two and not going to be the baby pretty soon. We never talk about what a "big boy" he is or anything like that. He is still in his crib and in diapers. He runs around with his blankie and his fingers in his mouth. I even call him, "Baby."

So, I've been trying to get him to realize the difference between big boys and babies. When he does things to help out around the house, I'll say, "BIG BOY!" When I take him out of his crib I'll tell him to leave his blankie and his fingers in his crib. He will take one last sniff of his blankie and suck on his fingers, and then drop his blankie and shake his hands to signify his leaving his fingers. Of course, within minutes sometimes, he'll be walking around with his blankie and fingers. I'll tell him to go lay in bed with it then and usually he will. But when he gets to his room, he usually gets distracted and starts playing.
There is no way I want to take him out of his crib yet. Who knows what will happen if I take that cage crib away.
As far as potty training... oi.... I do not feel like tackling that. Unfortunately, He is interested. Yet even more unfortunately still, he has no clue when he needs to go. One day, he woke up with poop, so I decided it was the best time to potty train. I wouldn't have to worry about that mess. We were doing good, sitting on the potty every 30 minutes. But after an hour and a half, he peed 5 min before I was going to sit him down again. And so I cleaned it up, sat him down, redressed him and 5 min later, he peed again. So I said forget it, he's not ready. He still wants to sit on the potty, though. And I know he still isn't ready because he sat and sat and then got off the potty and started peeing. And he was shocked at what was happening. I really don't expect anything from him until 3. That's how old my other boys were. My daughter, however, was trained right at her 2nd birthday. No wonder I love her more... no, just kidding... Although, you couldn't blame me for that one!!
Oh, I just looked over at Toddler B and noticed he is still in his highchair. I suppose I should graduate him to a booster.....

Ultrasound
Tuesday was my ultrasound. We all went to go see the baby. Princess C was so excited to go because she thought we were going to get the baby and bring it home. She started jumping around for joy yelling, "Yeah! We are going to get another Princess C!" I had no idea she was so excited to have a new baby in the house. So, do you want to know what it is? It's a..... baby. Yup, we are having a baby. Oh, you wanna know if it's a boy or girl? Well, you're just gonna have to wait a few more months.

Pregnancy Update
I am.... 15 weeks? Hmm... I suppose I should really know these things when I plan on giving an update.... It's either 15 or 16. I'm going with 15. I am past the falling asleep while stading on my feet stage. I had constant quesiness before which had me eating alot and gaining weight. That, too, has past. Unfortunatly, it has turned into full blown nausea. I wake up sick, feel better, and by early afternoon, I'm nauseous again. But it seems as though it has gotten worse again. Today, I only had a few hours of relief. Right after lunch I started feeling sick. So, I am just sitting on my computer trying not to move because it seems that movement brings it on. I also am limited to when I can talk. Signing has come in handy, once again. I'm telling you, if you can't sign, you need to learn. There is always a new use for it.
So much for being hot while you're pregnant. I am constantly freezing. Hopefully my hot hormones will kick in soon.
I asked the boys to clean the kitchen for me, since I was feeling sick. They were so quiet I just had to look at what they were up to. They were cleaning my cabinets!! Um.. thanks guys, but I really only wanted my counters cleaned. Goofy kids.... When they were done, N came over to me and told me I was the best mom in the whole wide world. And then he asked if there was anything else he could do for me. Wow. What a good day. Even if I can't move.

MORE FISH!!!
Our fish was acting crazy yesterday. She was swimming all over the place, really going crazy. I remembered her doing that once before and I thought she was going to die. I also noticed, yesterday, that her stomach was huge. It looked like she was going to explode. I thought, "Could she be having more babies? Nah... that would really be impossible." Last night when I was getting ready for bed, I looked in the tank, and there were babies everywhere!!! We counted 15. It was crazy!!!

If you look just above the rocks, you can see tiny specks. Those are the fish. So whatever kind of fish I have can reproduce without a male and gives birth to live fish. CRAZY! I actually read that all fish lay eggs, but some lay them inside of themselves. They don't actually give live birth.
Here is a picure of how big our first baby has gotten. He is above the mama fish in front of the heater:

I had to wake the boys up to see it last night. I figured the fish wouldn't survive the night. The mama fish eats her babies. (D didn't even remember waking up and coming down stairs to look.) There was still quite a few this morning, but now we are down to 3 or 4. I guess it's a good thing. What would we do with 17 fish in a 10 gal tank?! We keep yelling at her, though. "Stop eating your babies!"

Baby B's Diet
On the Baby B front, I started him on bananas. I had tried a few weeks ago, and he hated them. So I waited another week and a half, and he LOVES them. He grabs my hand and tries to shove the spoon in his mouth. It is so cute to see him moving the bananas around in his mouth. He is 5 1/2 months old, and what a difference it makes to wait to feed your baby. With my first two, I fed them cereal at 3 months. They made faces and spit it all back out. Yet, day after day, I kept forcing it down their throats. I thought at three months you were supposed to give them cereal. That's what the doctors said. Well, along came baby number 3. I read alot more and was now aware that babies didn't have to have food until 4 - 6 months of age. Wow, that's a long time to wait! I was determined to wait until at least 4 months. When I went to the doctor at her 4 month visit, the doc told me to start solids. (stinking docs, what do they know anyway?) I waited until she was 4 1/2 months and then started her on bananas. She still had the "stick the tongue out and all the food with it" reflex. But, I still kept feeding her. I had waited a month and a half longer than I had with the boys, and that was hard. I got such pressure from the people around to start solids. "Maybe she'll sleep better. Maybe you'll have to nurse less. Maybe she'll gain some weight." I got all that pressure this time around again. But, with each time around, I get more confident (also I didn't/don't have the time to deal with the mess of solids and wanted to wait as long as posible.. hehe...). So now I knew that I was doing the right thing by waiting. No, he wouldn't sleep better (the first two didn't sleep any better). Last week, I really felt it was time to start him. He watched us intently and tried grabbing what we were eating. He moved his tongue around in his mouth imitating us when we chewed. I wish that everything that I am learning while raising my kids, I would have already known the first time around. I feel that by the time I have my last one, I will be learning the last of what I need to know to do everything right, and it will be too late. Great, I'm going to be one of those bossy, know it all, do it my way, kind of mother-in-laws!

Baby B Pictures
My beautiful Baby B is getting so old. He is almost 5 months old now. He is so much fun. I couldn't wait until he was finally in the stage that I could play with him. We were having so much fun with Princess C, that when Baby B was born and just sat there like a bump on the log, it was so depressing. Now I can tickle him, fly him in the air (watch out for the drool!), but his favorite is peek-a-boo. He cracks up! He has his moody times, but for the most part, he is a very happy baby. He smiles at everyone. We took him for pictures and it was so easy to get good shots. In fact, it made it near impossible to choose my free picture! Here are a couple of shots:

Isn't he beautiful?!

Help! My Baby Won't Sleep!
Baby B is driving my nutso! He has to be rocked and held and nursed and if I try to put him down to sleep, he immediatly wakes up and cries. I don't remember my others being like this! Maybe I blocked it out. Any advice? He is 3 months old now. He was starting to put himself on a schedule, but vacation messed that up, and it doesn't look like he is getting back on one. Maybe I should give it more time? I tend to frustrate and give up quickly. Help!

My Big Moose
So, I got my son weighed at the doctor a week ago. He was 12 lbs 12 oz. My neice got weighed today. She is 3 weeks older than baby B. She weighs 11 lbs 2 oz. So by now, he is probably at least 13 lbs, so he is a whole 2 lbs bigger!! My mom and I were just discusing how large he was. He is too big to hold in only one arm. And he is only 7 weeks!! He was up every 3 hours last night to eat when he was just starting to sleep 5-7 hours at night. And can you guess what he is doing right now? Yup! EATING! I am so tired. We are meeting my brother in Colorado in a month. By then, the babies are going to look SO different! Oh well...

Cry, Cry Baby
My son is now 5 weeks old. I must say, he is crying less than he used too. I have tried different gas drops, gripe water, chamomile tea. I have eliminated things from my diet that might affect him... dairy, citrus, caffiene, nuts, now eggs. (I have gotten some ideas and help from my new friend Maria. Thank you!!). I'm not really sure if anything has helped, or if he is just getting older and therefore crying less, but I really hate to find out the hard way that they were working. I have also tried holding him in different possitions to see what works best - I got some ideas from websites about different colic holds. None of them worked. Luckily (after 5 weeks), I figured out that he likes to be held with his chest on my chest, his legs scrunched up, head leaning back on my hand, and me bouncing up and down. Of course, it is a very tiring position. As I bounce, I keep telling myself, I need to lose weight, I need to lose weight. He just wants to help, right? Yesterday, we all jammed into the car to go visit my grandma. While we were there, I realized that baby B was sleeping peacefully in his carseat. I thought, why don't I put him in there to sleep during the day? (He won't sleep during the day unless he is being held) So, that's were he is right now, sleeping peacefully. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH..... How nice! You would think that after having 3 kids, you've earned the right to know exactly what was going on with your baby. But nnnnnnooooooooo. Each and every one has to have it's own personality.
I blogged earlier about the crazy house I was living in. Wed, we went back down to 8 people in the house. Today we are down to 6. The house was soooo quiet!! My husband took my oldest son, D, to Royal Rangers winter camp. They will be gone until Sunday. They were so excited to go. They have all sorts of outside, winter activities. They feed them meals and snacks. Best of all, they get to stay up till MIDNIGHT! WOW! D was so excited! It's going to be strange with them gone, but I think I will enjoy the smaller, and more importantly, quieter, household.

Baby Boy B
Baby boy B was born Dec 15, 6:04 PM. The doc broke my water and I walked the halls of the hospital hoping labor would start, but nothing happened (except me becoming exhausted from walking). So around 2 I agreed to have cervidil and see if that would do anything (I was trying to avoid pitocin). I was told to lie in bed for two hours before sitting up or getting out. At the 2 hour mark, I sat up, still not feeling anything. About 15 minutes later I started contracting (4:30). I soon found out that cervidil produced very strong contractions just like pitocin. Ouch. At 5 I asked for an epidural because I was only dialated to 4 and I was having such strong contractions. I had planned on doing it naturally, but I thought I had a few more hours of pain and I was not up to dealing with it. At 5:30, the epidural was in and working, but by then I was a 7! So I had a pain free half hour before he was born. had I known that, I could have done without it! Oh well. Maybe next time...
B ended up with ABO jaundice, same as C, and had to spend a few days under the lights. I was released early on the 18th and thankfully, B was released late the same day. That morning the nurse came in and said the nurses the night before had made a mistake and I was suposed to have been released the night before. I am SO glad they did. I couldn't imagine going home without him. (I was really aggravated that he had to be under the lights and I felt that it was unnecessary since his billi count only reached a 10, if anyone one has advice, or info, it would be appreciated.)
Today the doc called and said B needs a repeat newborn screening test because one of the tests was borderline. We will do that tomorrow. Hopefully everything will be OK.
My mom and sister are staying here now, so it's four adults to four children. B likes to be held, and won't really sleep unless he is. C always wants to sit on a lap with a book. N has to be watched constantly so he doesn't destoy the house. D always wants to play games. And of course someone is always asking for food. And you can't forget the always overflowing laundry (which is currently on hold due to plumbing problems). So even four adults isn't enough. HOWEVER, right now the house is quiet. B and C are sleeping (B is in my arms of course), N is at the store with dad, and D is playing a game with my sister. My mom is working on notebooks to get me organized (thanks to Cindy Rushton).

Thursday is Baby Day
I went to the doctor yesterday. My fluid level for baby number 4 is very low and dropping rapidly. My due date was the 6th, and I have been turning down her offers to induce me. I do NOT want pitocin!! OUCH!! But, with the fluid being so low, she does not want to wait any longer. So, I go to the hospital Thursday morning. She told me she would first break my water and see what happens. If she needs to give me something, she will first try Cervadel (sp?). She said those two things should work, especially since it is baby number 4. Still not what I wanted, but I guess better then Pit. I had imagined laboring at home, going to the hospital dialated to 7, and having the baby within the hour. I didn't want to be stuck in bed all day, hooked up to machines and an IV. I had that with the first three and I am sick of that. Oh well, maybe next time.....
