Oct. 16, 2006 - Today it's real...

We have just begun to use Charlotte Mason methods at our house for school. I know it's real -- because today...

I'm going to be reading A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM to my first grader.  oh me... I haven't even read any of that... Well -- of course we are using Tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb, but you know... it's a start!

The actual book I'm using used to be owned by Pharbe Hall in 1892.  Whew... that's old. Ü  Pray we don't get sick from book mold.  LOL.. I'm just kidding.

I'll let you know how he does.  He is supposed to narrate to me what he hears -- using as many of the authors words as possible.  Yippee...

I really am excited.  I'm really learning to love the Charlotte Mason way. I hope we love Shakespeare after today.

OK the book mold comment made me laugh out loud. So glad I was done with my lunch or my screen would be in a mess. Please let us know how the narration goes!

If Lamb's version doesn't get you excited over Shakespeare, try E. Nesbit's version. We use both b/c sometimes one is more interesting in a certain version & not so much in the other. Although we liked A Midsummer's Night's Dream in both. But for some reason I think Shakespeare flows easier for girls, it might be a whole different story when I start reading these to my boys.

We did Midsummer Night's Dream last year. My dd made puppets out of toilet paper rolls so she could keep all of the characters straight. We had such a great time reading it. Enjoy!

Have you looked at Ambleside yet? It's a free CM curriculum. The best part, though, is the wealth of knowledge of the posters on the loop. AmblesideOnline.org

I remember feeling that way when we first started on Shakespeare 6 years ago. I thought "Wow, Now I'm *really* jumping in with both feet!". I have to say we've loved it so much that we're reading through some of the stories for the 2nd time now. You sound so excited - that's a wonderful thing for your kids to hear in your voice! Enjoy the journey!!
