February 20 was a total lunar eclipse. We talked about it for a few days before it happened, and then we looked at it several times that evening. The next day, our Bible reading was in Acts 2: 14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! 16No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: The kids were so excited about this-- they quickly jumped to the conclusion that verse 20 refers to a lunar eclipse. They wanted to read the passage several times that day and have brought it up again since. I'm all for anything-- be it an eclipse or other-- that makes them want to talk about the Bible! |
