Hi, welcome to my blog. I will be sharing our experience as we homeschool 5 boys - our struggles, trials, prayers, and blessings. There are many challenges along the way for any homeschooler and I hope you are encouraged by what you read here. We use Sonlight and My Father's World as our main curriculum. Sep. 23, 2007 - The Weekend Report & Trusting God in all things
We did not have our Bible study on Friday because of a bridal shower. We had a spa/bridal shower. It was a lot of fun! I love doing spa parties. It is a great time to relax with friends and get pampered. After the shower a few of us went over to a friend's and watched Phantom of the Opera. It was okay but I was expecting better after the reviews I heard.
While I was away the boys watched some animal planet with dad and after the younger two went to bed the older 3 and dad played Canasta until midnight. Needless to say we all slept in on Saturday but not long enough for me.
Yesterday I made granola, pancake mix and a double batch of muffin mix for breakfast this week. After that I finished the laundry and cleaned the house. I enlisted the help of the of the younger four to get the house vacuumed. The oldest was out with dad in the neighborhood of our church. My dh goes out and offers to prayer for those he meets or takes prayer requests. It is one of the ways that we can show love to those in the community. We want them to know we are there to love them and that God loves them and we want nothing in return. If I didn't mention it before my dh is a pastor of a small church plant.
Today we went to church of course. The topic was mostly about trust. The scripture for the day was: Luke 4:38-44 Then He got up and left the synagogue, and entered Simon's home. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Him to help her. 39 And standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she immediately got up and waited on them. 40 While the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them. 41 Demons also were coming out of many, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But rebuking them, He would not allow them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ. 42 When day came, Jesus left and went to a secluded place; and the crowds were searching for Him, and came to Him and tried to keep Him from going away from them. 43 But He said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose." 44 So He kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea. Luke 5:1-8 Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing around Him and listening to the word of God, He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret; 2 and He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets. 3 And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat. 4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." 5 Simon answered and said, "Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets." 6 When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break; 7 so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus' feet, saying, "Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"
The trust part came in when Jesus told Peter to cast out in the deep after fishing all night. A little piece of historical information: the fishermen would fish at night because the fish could see the nets during the day. I think that is a key piece of information because when Jesus asked Peter to cast out during the day, Peter and the others were probably not expecting there would be any fish in the net. But Peter stepped out and trusted anyway and there were so many fish the nets were breaking and two boats were filled to the point of sinking. Our faith grows so much when we step out in faith and trust that the Lord can do the impossible. My husband and I have seen it in our own lives over and over again. When we share the things that the Lord has done for us or when we hear about what He has done for others that is also a faith booster. So share those things that God has done in your family so that their faith may increase and they can rejoice with you.
A lot of times we give God the big things but sometimes we forget that He is the God of the small things too. He cares about our needs and struggles and wants us to lay them at his feet. Whatever the problem or trial God is there to walk us through it. We just have to let Him.

Aug. 21, 2008 - Thankful Thursday
Iris at Sting My Heart is focusing on peace today. Everyone longs for peace - peace in their homes and in their countries. As Iris pointed out one definition of peace is: freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions. Another definition, which encompasses the above definition is: Strong's Concordance 7965 - Hebrew Shalom ..... A word study in the New King James version for SHALOM says: Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.
I am so thankful for the peace of God. It is more than being free from conflict on the outside...it is true freedom from conflict on the inside. So many times we appear to be cool, calm and collective but inside our emotions and thoughts are raging. I am so thankful that we, as believers, can have shalom even in our inner being. When the storm is raging call on your Prince of Peace and He will quiet you with His peace. Thank you Jesus for that peace...it is a strong testimony of your work in our lives.
I am also thankful for my MIL and her sister. They have offered to take the boys for a day so that I can have some time to myself.
I am thankful that my dh's new job is going well. The Lord has given him peace, wisdom and strength each day.

The LORD bless you, and keep you; the LORD make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace (shalom). Numbers 6:24-26

I am thankful there is nothing to difficult for our God. If He can create the heavens and the earth through His great power then we can be sure He is able to accomplish mighty things in our own lives.
I am thankful for my husband, who has worked tirelessly this week training in his second job and continues to accomplish work in the ministry. I am thankful for his dedication to the Lord and to his family.
I am thankful for my children. They are each a unique gift from the Lord. They may bring challenges into our lives but they are also a huge blessing.
