~ About Me ~
Hi, welcome to my blog. I will be sharing our experience as we homeschool 5 boys - our struggles, trials, prayers, and blessings. There are many challenges along the way for any homeschooler and I hope you are encouraged by what you read here. We use Sonlight and My Father's World as our main curriculum. Thank you for stopping by and comments are welcomed.
Thursday and Friday I organized some closets and the boy's rooms. I like to do that after Christmas and have a place for all the new stuff. I also cleaned the house and thought about taking down the tree but decided to leave it up a little longer. I spent some time doing a little progress report for each of the boys. I will go over the report with each of them sometime this coming week.
We had a very nice weekend. It wasn't very relaxing but we had a nice time anyway. My b-day was Saturday and my dh took me out to dinner while the boys stayed home and had pizza. I guess they were also making me cards while we were gone because when we got home they sang "Happy Birthday" to me, gave me their cards and a gift from all of them. Then we had sundaes for dessert and then played "Clue". It was a very nice day...even though I am getting older.
Today we went to church (of course). This afternoon we are hanging out because some of us are under the weather again. I guess it is that time of year...
Tomorrow we will be hanging out in the morning as a family and then we are going over to friend's house for a potluck. Some mutual friends are heading off to Africa as missionaries in a couple of weeks. So this will be a New Year's Eve get together and going away party for them. We will miss them but they have longed to go to Africa for about 6 years. The Lord has provided for them mightily and they are finally ready to go. It is sad to have them leave but we know the Lord is guiding them. My two youngest ones are sad because this is the second family that we know who have left for another country in the last month. They have a hard time understanding why but they do know it is what God wants. I think it is a good lesson for them - sometimes God's will is not easy and sometimes it makes us sad but we know that these two families will have joy in doing the Lord's work. My youngest still gets sad when he thinks of his friend so far away...
Tuesday I think we will hang out as a family. My MIL bought us a new camera/camcorder for Christmas and I think we will take some videos and pictures of the boys to send off to relatives. Hopefully we will all feel better and go out and do some sledding/snowboarding. B3 received a snowboard for Christmas and he is looking forward to using it again. The older two already have snowboards that are learning to use.
I am hoping to start school back up on Wednesday. We have had a long break with sickness & the holidays. I am anxious to get back into our "normal" routine.
Sounds like a lovely time!
Hope the potluck is a great blessing...your son can look forward to corresponding...it's fun to send mail to another country, and even more fun to get some back!
Happy Birthday! Hope you guys are all feeling better. I love the feeling of organized closets! :-) I'll go in and just stand in front of the closet and stare for a while...guess that's because we know it won't stay that way for long.
ha!

Aug. 21, 2008 - Thankful Thursday
Iris at Sting My Heart is focusing on peace today. Everyone longs for peace - peace in their homes and in their countries. As Iris pointed out one definition of peace is: freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions. Another definition, which encompasses the above definition is: Strong's Concordance 7965 - Hebrew Shalom ..... A word study in the New King James version for SHALOM says: Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.
I am so thankful for the peace of God. It is more than being free from conflict on the outside...it is true freedom from conflict on the inside. So many times we appear to be cool, calm and collective but inside our emotions and thoughts are raging. I am so thankful that we, as believers, can have shalom even in our inner being. When the storm is raging call on your Prince of Peace and He will quiet you with His peace. Thank you Jesus for that peace...it is a strong testimony of your work in our lives.
I am also thankful for my MIL and her sister. They have offered to take the boys for a day so that I can have some time to myself.
I am thankful that my dh's new job is going well. The Lord has given him peace, wisdom and strength each day.
My prayer for you:
The LORD bless you, and keep you; the LORD make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace (shalom). Numbers 6:24-26
