Encouragement Along the Way

Photobucket ~ About Me ~
Hi, welcome to my blog. I will be sharing our experience as we homeschool 5 boys - our struggles, trials, prayers, and blessings. There are many challenges along the way for any homeschooler and I hope you are encouraged by what you read here. We use Sonlight and My Father's World as our main curriculum. Thank you for stopping by and comments are welcomed.

Encouragement Along the Way

Mar. 1, 2008 -

The younger 2 are almost done with their lapbook.  We will finish it up this week and I will be posting some pictures.  We are finishing just in time to start the middle 2 on their Civil War lapbook.  I am enjoying U.S. History this year with the boys.  I am learning a lot as we study through it - so much I didn't know or had forgotten over the years.

It has been a rough few months where I seem to never be able to finish up our weekly lessons.  I also "forget" about going over my oldest sons work.  How you may ask could you do that?  Well he is so independent with his studies & doesn't need my help that I well forget.    We are only meeting once or twice a week at this point so I worked out a schedule that will help both of us remember to get together each day for discussion etc.

The 2 older boys started reading Boyhood and Beyond by Bob Shultz and they will be discussing a couple of chapters with dad each week.  They will also be going through Created for Work by the same author.  I pray it will be a blessing to all 3 of them.

I am looking forward to the spring (I think I have mentioned that before) so that we can get outside more. I mentioned to the art class yesterday that I would like to take the kids to a park to either draw or paint a river or pond and whatever else we find.  They all thought that was a fun idea.  The last two weeks we have been sculpting and then I let them paint their "sculpture" even though that isn't usually done.  They love to paint & get messy!    Next week we will  be studying John Audubon and the kids will be sketching different animals.

Have a blessed weekend everyone!

and I appreciate you letting me know that you like the prompts.
My 14yo finished Boyhood and Beyond a few weeks ago and has applied what he learned to his daily life. I thought it was a really good book and he really enjoyed reading/working through it as a Bible study. I hope your sons reap the same benifits mine did.
Have a blessed week.

Mar. 4, 2008 - Don't feel too bad!

Don't feel too bad about not getting to your oldest ds' work! I do that with my oldest all the time too! It is hard to get to "Mr. Independent's" work when you are trying to keep 2 others focused at doing theirs!

Do you enjoy doing lapbooks? We do here! They are alot of fun and the boys seem to remember things better than they do without doing them. :)

We love lapbooks :) I haven't done one with the older children (10 and up) since we finished the ancient sumer lapbook. We switched to notebooking with our science and they seem to enjoy that too.
Boyhood and Beyond, I need to find out more about this book for my boys. I am looking for an studyoutline for Character Training for all the children that I could maybe teach as a unit, any suggestions? Thanks!
Be blessed,
Stacy

Aug. 21, 2008 - Thankful Thursday

Iris at Sting My Heart is focusing on peace today. Everyone longs for peace - peace in their homes and in their countries. As Iris pointed out one definition of peace is: freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions. Another definition, which encompasses the above definition is: Strong's Concordance 7965 - Hebrew Shalom ..... A word study in the New King James version for SHALOM says: Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.

I am so thankful for the peace of God. It is more than being free from conflict on the outside...it is true freedom from conflict on the inside. So many times we appear to be cool, calm and collective but inside our emotions and thoughts are raging. I am so thankful that we, as believers, can have shalom even in our inner being. When the storm is raging call on your Prince of Peace and He will quiet you with His peace. Thank you Jesus for that peace...it is a strong testimony of your work in our lives.

I am also thankful for my MIL and her sister. They have offered to take the boys for a day so that I can have some time to myself.

I am thankful that my dh's new job is going well. The Lord has given him peace, wisdom and strength each day.

My prayer for you:
The LORD bless you, and keep you; the LORD make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace (shalom). Numbers 6:24-26

Aug. 14, 2008 - Thankful Thursday

"Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You..."Jeremiah 32:17

I am thankful there is nothing to difficult for our God. If He can create the heavens and the earth through His great power then we can be sure He is able to accomplish mighty things in our own lives.

I am thankful for my husband, who has worked tirelessly this week training in his second job and continues to accomplish work in the ministry. I am thankful for his dedication to the Lord and to his family.

I am thankful for my children. They are each a unique gift from the Lord. They may bring challenges into our lives but they are also a huge blessing.

Thank you Iris for hosting the Thankful Thursday meme. If you would like to know more head on over to her blog and check it out. You will not be disappointed.
