I saw this on Peggy's Blog The Simple Woman...
I am taking part in the Farm Girl Blog-A-Thon over at the "Garden Goose" blog. It runs for six weeks...so go on over and get the details and join yourself. Please also check out Mary Jane's Farm
(Remember you do not have to live on a farm to be a farm girl.)
This WEEKS THEME- What does being a Farm Girl mean to you?
Please post a photo of either yourself, or your farm or home...or something in your home that shouts "Farm Girl and proud of it!"
(example..chicken collection,John Deere collection,old farm tools,etc.)
Well I was NEVER a farm girl-- never even desired the farm girl lifestyle-- thought I'd be a "professional woman"... but then I had 2 boys and a BORN country husband...(not farmer--but country none the less)... so when we had the OPPORTUNITY to move to this beautiful farm house :
for such a DEAL (we don't own...but I really beleive it was God ordained because we were accepted to rent this home for MUCH less than they were asking)...it is an OLD farm house-- and has character which thankfully outweighs some of the disadvanages (no closets , squirels in the attic , snakes in the basement )...but it is VERY cute and I fell in love when we pulled in the driveway!!
Well we moved in the Fall and our first spring priority was 28 BABY chicks--
That was VERY exciting for all-- unfortunately we lost em' all -- however we did get some last year and they are still alive and kickin'!! Providing us about 18-20 eggs a day!! Hoping to get them out FREE RANGING SOON-- we just lost a FEW to a hawk attack a few days ago-- hubby would rather keep em' alive than keep em' OUT and ABOUT....
Oh and you can't forget the experience of fixing up the chicken house--
Then after we felt a bit comfortable with those-- we really went "WILD" and purchased 2 kid goats-- THEY are the BEST-- we don't milk em' (YET) but they are so great-- better than ANY dog I've ever had-- better behaived and very LOVING!!
Of course we jumped right into the gardening-- hubby has ALWAYS had a garden--just not this BIG--
and that has proved to be a lot of fun for all as well. I am the drawback to the garden as last year I was so pregnant and miserable (due the same time this year) that I couldn't get into gear with Canning in a HOT house... I just COULDN'T!!
Even hanging laundry out to dry was a first for me-- but such a CALM and PEACEFUL expereince
After living here for almost 3 years-- I couldn't imagine raising these boys anywhere else!!
