Weekly Homeschool Report #1

Hmm-- I really like this idea--  an end of the week wrap up--  could be good-- could be bad---

Go here to learn more-- and to participate...

We are still getting up to speed-- but the basics have been covered each day!   Baby girl has been here a month tomorrow--so we need to get busy soon!!

BIBLE

Well I haven't been diving into Weaver's Bible lessons yet-- but Jason has been doing our family devotions each afternoon before he goes to bed.  He has been pulling things from here and there--but making real progress with the boys.

Jason has started working with the boys to learn some Hymns.  Our current church is hymns only-- so it is good for them to learn -- (we listen to a lot of P&W around the house and in the car).   It has really challenged me too-- because I am goign to TRY to play the piano along with some of the hymns-- so we are going to focus on 1 per week--- and I need to PRACTICE-- but it helps greatly with a family who isn't musically inclined and can't carry a tune very well.   This week and next week our hymn is Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.

After reading a few other blogs-- I remembered how we were working on memorizing the OT Books and doing sword drills to find em'...need to get back into this too--we were up to Psalms....the boys are GOOD memorizers!

I want to add in some memory verse work here-- I need to work on that for NEXT week.... we've done it before-- just slacked off-

MATH

Zachary is zipping right a long in his 2nd grade Horizon math book.   He is working on Thousands, adding , subtracting, ordnals, counting by 3's, 6's, and following directions.

Joshua just finished his K Horizon math book this week and is now in his 1st grade Horizon math book. (he was a bit behind because he did a Rod and Staff Math workbook at the beginning of the year to help him get started).   You know how the beginning of a math book is (usually) LOTS OF REVIEW-- he has had EASY lessons this week!!  (and is happy about that)

Language Arts-  Reading, Writing, Phonics

We use Sing Spell Read and Write for this-- and Explode the Code workbooks

Zachary is on step 20-- in SSRW and doing very well.

He has been doing copy work from a Rod and Staff book--

He is almost finished with his Explode the Code 2 1/2 book (they do 2 pages front and back each day) ...not sure what we'll do when that is finished-- seems a bit early to move on to book 3- need to think about this- because Explode the Code is good for re-inforcing what we are learning.

Joshua is on step 15-- doing very well also-

His handwriting has been writing (from memory) name, address, phone number (NEATLY).

He is working thru the Explode the Code 1 1/2..... I really like these workbooks-so do the boys!

Science

We need to get on our Weaver lessons here-- this week and last--it has been thru DVD's!  .

We found a great series called Popular Mechanics for Kids at the library-- WOW_- those are NEAT - O!!

We are working thru the Plagues in Weaver--so they have been watching videos on Frogs and Ambhibians-

We read a few books on the Nile River too.

Read Aloud-   & ART

Well is is is fall- and yesterday we started thru Little House on the Prairie- Farmer Boy-  and we all (mom included) drew a picture to go with Chapter 1.  I think we are really going to enjoy this !!

Music-

Zachary has joined the childrens Bell Choir at our church (he really enjoys this)

Zachary and Joshua are joining the Christmas Contada at church--practice started this week....

Physical Education-

This is gym 2x a month at the local YMCA  (after co-op) but not this week-

They have been outside EVERY DAY playing hard and dirty though!!

There are many life skills they are learning too-- but I'll save those for a later date-- we need to get started our our school work for TODAY.

Thank you for joining us at Homeschool Weekly! Congratulations on your baby girl :) Adjusting to a new wee one takes time, but it's worth every minute.

Your week sounds wonderful...we've used some of choices in the past and really enjoyed them...(Sing, Spell, Read, & Write and Horizons Math)

I look forward to your participation next week!

Popular Mechanics is great!
I wish our church sang hymns. I miss hymns.

this was my 1st Cuddles Couch Week Review. It's fun to read how the week went for others.
