Momma's Day

Nov. 10, 2008 - Success!

We had a successful day to day.  It started out slow and dragging.  For some reason (maybe it's the weather), we were all moving slow this morning.  After everyone eventually got dressed and did minimum chores we started school.  I knew the one thing I wanted to get accomplished schoolwise today was the next IEW lesson.  It was a long one about writing stories and how they should be set up.  The video part was about an hour long.  The kids began their stories and I had to leave to go to a dentist appt.  Hubby was left in charge but he hadn't watched any of the IEW videos.  He's a very good writer but he didnt know what the kids were supposed to include in the stories so they were on their own until I got home.  Both did such a good job, especially Son who is a horrible writer.  It wasn't perfect.  I had to correct some spelling and grammar but the story was good.  He followed the outline and included all the "dress ups" that Mr. Pudewa wanted.  I was so proud of him.

Daughter has been writing stories ever since she could put words on paper.  Her problem is a stubborn streak that won't let her take suggestions from someone else.  But after a couple of false starts, she caught on to what was expected and wrote a wonderful story also.

This is such a great program. I love to read what they come up with. It was through IEW that I found out my oldest had a great sense of humor when he wrote.
For some reason - thinking weather related - we had a very slow paced day too. Kind of nice though.

Congrats on a successful day! Don't those feel fantastic!? We're on a very minimal schedule while we're settling into the new house and routine, but I hope we'll be back on track by next week . . . just in time for Grandma to visit. 8)- Oh well.

I've want to get that book (do hard things) for Ted, too. The IEW magazine has an article about it that I told him to read this week. I think I'll put that on my to do list.

Nov. 13, 2008 - Mice and stories....

Well, I have to comment first about the mice. My in-laws previous house backed up to a 5 acre field. They never had a problem with mice until a new development went up on the other side of the property line. The sonic repellents DO WORK! We set them up in the house and within a few days all the mice were gone! (Just a little helpful hint in case mice become a problem!). And I know my children are younger and only just starting to write, but writing was my favorite thing next to math....I loved making things up and writing them down. When I was about 7 or 8 I decided I was going to write a book someday, which of course hasn't happened, but one never knows....:)
