Summer Homeschool

Due to moving a couple of times this past year, we didn't get to finish our school year yet.  We are going to be extending our homeschool into the summer months.  It has been a couple of months since we were able to even get a lesson in.  Hopefully we will be able to start again in a week or so.  I am going to have to do some reviewing for the first week.

I hope all of my friends have a great summer!!!

What we are learning....

We have been using the Kidsparkz curriculum for a couple of weeks now.  So, I thought I would give my opinion of it.  WE LOVE IT!! lol.  Joshua is responding to it better than I even imagined.  We have been learning about Forest Animals.  There are so many ideas and activities.   I like the fact that the curriculum allows you to add your own ideas if you want.  But, the worksheets and other printables are great by themselves.  I just always like to see what else I can add. :)

Here are some pics of our  "learning wall" and some crafts we made.

Got Our New Curriculum...

Well... we got our Kidsparkz curriculum today.  I am pretty impressed with it so far.  There are lots of ideas and worksheets.  And lots of hands on learning.  We are starting our first lesson tomorrow.  It is about Forest Animals.  We will probably spend a month on this theme.  There are lots of fun activities included in this one.

Trying Something New...

I have debated over and over about buying a preschool curriculum for Joshua.  But, I have finally found one that isn't expensive and looks like it will be just right for him.  It is Kidsparkz.  www.kidsparkz.com

I am getting it today.  I need something just a little more organized than I am.  lol.  I will let everyone know how Joshua does with it.

He is doing good with just the few things that we have been working on.  I keep the lessons short and if he isn't in the mood... we try again later.

I'm So Impressed!

Joshua learned to read the word "see" today.  That is after just a few mins. of the headsprout reading program.  They also have a program where he can practice using the mouse.  He got the "clicking" down today... but still needs lots of work on the movement of the mouse.  lol.   I can remember the first time I used a mouse.   I was an adult!   I had a hard time controling it at first.

Anyway, his attention span could be better.  But at his age it is to be expected.  The program is set up so that you can pause it and come back to where you left off later.

Reading Program

We started a phonics reading program today.  I'm not sure if Joshua is ready yet.  A couple of more days will tell me.  We are using Headsprout.   I put a link to it on my sidebar.   I have used it before with my niece.  She really learned a lot from it.  Joshua is a year or so younger than she was.  So... I hope he is ready.  If not, I can wait and start it again  at a later date.

We are also doing Elmo's Preschool Deluxe.  He loves it.  I have to do all of the mouse work... but he points to the right answers.  Elmo is his all time favorite character.  So, he really relates to the software.

Hump Day

We made it to Wednesday.  This week seems to be moving really slow.  Potty training has been put on hold.  He just isn't ready yet.  No matter how ready I am.  lol.  We are gonna try again in a month or so.  I am just so ready to be done with diapers.  He will be 3 in June.  I mean.... come on now.

I have been printing lots of worksheets off the internet.  There are so many free resources on the internet for Joshua's age.  I love it!  I need to restock on some of his supplies.  He is getting low on crayons (he has broken most of his), glue and I need to get some more construction paper.  SO, I am planning a shopping trip soon.  We are in the midst of a winter storm right now... so it will be a couple of days before I can get out and about.  I don't like driving in freezing rain and snow.

Well... that 's about all I got for today.  I am still trying to wake up.  Joshua is putting some puzzles together.  I will be so glad when we can get outside and play.  lol
