This past week I found myself on B&N's bookclub chats. I was thrilled to learn that Anne Rice was the guest author! I know, you may be thinking "Isn't she the one who wrote about the vampires?" Well, yes, but until you read one of her books, don't condem the cover. Her stories envoke the war of good and evil, flesh and spirit. now she has come full circle with novels about the life of Jesus.
I was curious and posted a response and question:
Dear Anne,
Thank you for answering your call to write. I have been a fan since high school and I must say I've grown with you and your writing. Although "Interview" was my first, "Memnoch" was my favorite.
Each time I read a new work of yours it was right on course with my life! When I was "into" vampires, there was "Interview". When I was angry at God and walking away from my Catholic faith, there was "Memnoch". And now that I have since given my life back to Christ, here you are treating us to your writings about Christ.
I admire your courage and your talent.
My question is this, do you believe that God had a plan for your life? Are you happy with that plan? I know we are all thrilled to have your wonderful words and imagination to enjoy!
Fan for Life,
Marianne
And she responded:
Marianne ------ I think God has a plan for all our lives. I think God has a plan for every flower, snowflake, wisp of the wind, sound that rises from a violin. I think all of what surrounds us, includes us, and nourishes us ---- all that we know and are ---- is part of God's plan. That's why it can be discouraging to hear people say after a catastrophe that God was with them when they survived. Of course praising God and giving thanks is essential, but I believe God is with the one who drowns in the flood as surely as He is with the survivor. We can't know the plan God has for us; we can't know what He is offering us. We must strive to do the best we can. Am I happy with my life? Supremely. I feel that this new vocation to be a Christian writer enables me to unite all of my life experience in an extraordinary way. That this is so visible to me is a gift. I see my earliest writings as preparing me for my books on Christ. I see my earliest prayers as a little child doing the same. Yes, God has a plan for my life and for every life, and I am grateful with all my heart for the joy I know now.
All I can say is "WOW!" |
