1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?

Hot chocolate

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?

We don't do "santa" in our home.  The reason is this...if I ask my children to believe in santa, who they cannot see, and later they find out it was just a "lie."  Then how can we witness to them about God, because we cannot see Him either.  I don't like all the santa stuff mixed in with Christmas...of course we are told by our family that we are keeping them from having "fun."  Tell me any child who wouldn't be excited knowing that he is getting gifts on Christmas morning???  Oh, and we do leave one  thing per child left unwrapped under the tree.

3. Colored lights on tree/house, or white?

I really love the white lights...more uniform I guess.  Colored lights give me a headache.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?

I would if I could find any around here, but hey, I don't need any reason to smooch on my sweet hubby!

5. When do you put up your decorations?

We are putting them up this weekend.

6. Tree -- real or artificial?

We have a small 4 foot artificial tree.  Our house isn't very big on the inside, and with so many that we have over at Christmas, this gives us more room, and still has a "Christmasy" feel.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?

My grandparents from both sides would come over on Christmas Eve and go to Church with us.  Then we all went back to my mom's house and had finger foods and punch.  My mom's parents always spent the night so we would spend the evening watching old Christmas movies like "Christmas In Connecticut."

8. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?

No.

9. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

I absolutely LOVE the primitive look.  I have old grapevine wrapped around my tree.  I also have all rustic looking angels/snowmen.  Then I stick little bunches of baby's breath into different parts of the tree.

10. Snow! Love it or dread it?

I LOVE snow!  I wish it stayed around all winter long.

11. Can you ice skate?

hmm...about 18 years ago I could.  I haven't even tried since then.

12. Do you remember your favorite gift as a child?

I remember receiving a doll named Audrey and a wooden bunkbed for my dolls.

13. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you now?

I love being with my family...and my husband's extended family.  We have the best time together.

14. What is your favorite holiday dish/dessert?

Pumpkin Pie, my father-in-law makes the BEST pumpkin pie I have ever tasted!

15. What is your favorite holiday tradition?

Our candlelight Christmas Eve service at church.

16. What tops your tree?

A rustic handmade angel

17. Which do you prefer -- giving or receiving?

I really do love giving....most all of the gifts I am giving this year are hand made.

18. What is your favorite Christmas carol/song?

Silent Night

19. Candy canes, yes or no?

I personally don't care for candy canes, but my children love them!

20. Do you feel Christmas is too commercialized?

Definitely.  I would love it if all the "obligatory" giving was done away with.  I wish everyone would give from their heart.  For example, my in-laws asked me for my Christmas List.  I told them that more than anything, I would love a weekend getaway with my husband.  All I really needed from them was babysitting the younger children.

21. What is your favorite Christmas TV special (not movie)?

A Christmas Story...this just cracks me up year after year.  Our whole family just loves this movie.

22. What is your favorite Christmas movie?

It's A Wonderful Life, starring Jimmy Stewart.

23. Do you have a favorite Christmas book/story?

Yes, It's called The Littlest Angel. I loved this book as a child.

I was devastated when my parents told me that Santa was not real. My sisters were being mean and telling me he was not real and I thought I would go to mom and dad and ask them to set them straight. What ended up happening was I spent the next 20 minutes crying and asking why they lied to me. I never wanted my children to have to deal with that so while we talk about St. Nicholas and who he was and the legend of Santa Claus... I have always been straight and real with them about the truth.

It was encouraging to read your blog about this subject because I know I endured a lot of chiding from my family for spoiling the fun too... but, personally 20 minutes of crying and months of hearbreak over being lied too is not very much fun.

Have a merry Christmas!

What a fun read. [ 0=

Oh, to answer your question about my beaded work. I don't have a web site yet. I have sold to people I have met through HSB. If you tell me what you want then I can make some things and I will post a pic of it on a post and you can pic the one you like. I have been wanting to have a web site but just haven't done it ...yet. I NEED to. It tickles me pink to hear that people like my work. [0= Thank you for letting me know.

Blessings and ((hugs)) my SSiC

We don’t do Santa either, for the exact same reasons you stated. I love snow also! We don’t get any where I live, and I miss the north.
Thank you for the comment you left on my blog. I actually have thought about sewing for others. After I graduate (next school year!) I hope to start a business of crocheting and, possibly, sewing.
Well, I hope you have a great week.
