My favorite easy bread recipe.
1 egg
1 cup warm water
1 1/2 cups wheat flour
2 cups white flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 T butter
1 tsp salt
1 T yeast
Put all this in a bread machine and use the dough cycle. Shape into loaves, rolls or whatever. Let rise again and then bake at 350 until tops are lightly browned. Brush tops with shortening to keep them soft. Makes 2 loaves.
I run 2 machines at the same time and get 4 loaves each time I make bread. Sometimes I just make 2 loaves and use the other batch for cinamon rolls or dinner rolls.
Before you think I am oh so natural or a super-homemaker, I use store bought flour, maybe someday I'll be up to grinding my own.... but I'm not there yet. The equipment is so expensive.
I like to make our bread because
-
It's cheaper than better store brands- we don't like the cheapo "air" bread.
-
When I run out I don't have to run to the store
-
From what I have read it is much healthier
-
It smells soooooo good while baking.
-
I feel so domestic and wifely.
I do have to say though that my husband does like the texture of store bought bread for sandwiches.
