Posted in homelife

We like ice skating.   We have a couple of ponds that freeze up enough for skating most years and the boys found that the ditch below our house can be pretty fun too.   A few weeks ago we went to an ice arena.  Ohhh I get it, Ice is supposed to be SMOOTH!  What a revelation.  They had these walkers for beginners to skate with too.   Look at the grin on Bretts face.   He was Sooooo excited.

We got there a bit early so the man in charge of maintenance brought us in the back and showed us the workings of how the ice is made and kept at the right temperature.  Did you know that the ice should be colder for hockey than figure skating? (Or was it the other way around?)  I always thought ice was ice.   He also showed us the Zamboni.  That is the thing they drive around and clean the ice with.  That is why it is so smooth.

The only downside is there are WAY too many people skating.  And you can't have a  campfire!  and go home smelling like smoke.  Or eat hotdogs.  Seriously, I really like that kind of stuff.  (not necesarily the hotdogs... but the whole atmosphere of it)  I just need to get a walker for Brett.

Here is a  picture of Garrett on the ditch.

This is last year by our pond with some cousins and a fire and hotdogs.
Doesn't get any better that this!!!

Oh I am so jealous! My kids all want to ice skate SO bad, but while it gets cold and snowy where I live, it's not cold enough for safe skating on ponds, and there is no skating rink in our small town. Great pictures! ~K

I love it when ladies post pictures. My favorite was your son on the frozen creek. Now that is truly a boys dream.......Living where he can go out and catch rabbits, go on hunts with dad and skate on frozen creeks. Wow. It's sortof like a boyscout manual story or something. :)

Thanks so much for your opinion on Saxon on my blog. My 11yo boy is also in Saxon 76 and 9.5 daughter (almost 10) is in 6/5. I just find it very easy, and I'm going to take your advice and jump over the repetetive sections. That way we can skip doing math through the summer. UGH. My LEAST favorite thing is school in summer.....that's just not me. :)

It looks like a lot of fun was had by all. I can't wait until we get some real snow where we live. We've only got less than an inch so far.

BTW I'm tagging you.... go to my blog for details.

The thoughts and reflections of a mom who loves being at home, and is doing all she has ever desired in her life..... Really... I love my life that much!

"And all thy sons shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy sons.
In righteousness shall thou be established."
Is 54:13-14
