Freshening the Homeschool Plan

quote - " This post is for the veteran - the homeschooler who can teach a child to read while stir frying dinner, who has more books in her bookcases than she could ever use, the mom who multi-tasks (violin lesson for one child, reading with another while waiting, picking up yet another child from soccer practice on the way home).

This post is also for the mother who is tired.
"

One of the suggestions in this post hit me.

quote - what you love to do, every week. That sounds obvious, but usually the first thing to go in a family’s togetherness program is a mother’s passions.

Recently I quit some activities that I really LOVE to do.  All in the name of being available more for my family. These are things that I do for ME.  I felt a bit selfish doing them.   Maybe I need to rethink this decision.  Because I really miss it.

Sounds like a smart lady. And that's why I started scrapbooking again. I had not a single thing to do that was just for me.

oh yeah, I guess I blog. :)

I don't think doing some activities for yourself is being selfish. Having said that I don't do much of anything that's just for me. Apart from school all my time is with ministry, part of which I did just give notice I'd be stopping, but I was relieved about that. You know now that you've brought this up, I feel like I have a lot more to say on the subject, so I think I'll post about it myself! :-) Thanks for the idea

I don't know why doing something for yourself would be selfish. If your families needs are being taken care of and your DH is happy, why not? I know my husband does things that he likes ,(hunting and golfing) just 'cause. Like Grandma used to say moderation in all things. Love ya!

I am in a Christian band - my very favorite place to be on Thursday nights and gig nights! - and yes, it can take time away from homeschooling, but I really need that time to just recharge and get out of teaching/mom mode. If I didn't have it, I would explode. Unfortunately, I know this from experience. :-(

However, the explosion had the fortunate side effect of my husband practically begging me to take some time out away from the kids a couple times a week! LOL! So now I have my time with my family's blessing! Couldn't ask for more than that.

I think taking time for a mental break is essential for effective discipling of our families. Rethink it, by all means!

The thoughts and reflections of a mom who loves being at home, and is doing all she has ever desired in her life..... Really... I love my life that much!

"And all thy sons shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy sons.
In righteousness shall thou be established."
Is 54:13-14
