Tales from a first year homeschooling Mama

• Jan. 31, 2009 - Just Starting To Blog

Well here it is....in my attempt to stay motivated, energetic and focussed on the kids schooling I am trying to write about it. Maybe a way for me to maintain accountability? We really hit a slump after x-mas this year....and I am now just thinking about school again. Yes, my friends tell me 'hey they are young', but I guess my over-achieving alter ego breathes down my back everytime we miss a day. I do tell myself that it is okay and everyone will survive...and at this age they are always learning and growing no matter what we do...but it's a habit I am also teaching them....but I realize as a parent we teach our children our good AND bad habits!

So...as I sit here after a very long Saturday of organizing our learning drawers and cupboards all over our house I realize that I continue to teach my kids something new every day - even when we are not entrenched in the books! I think because I was schooled the 'conventional' way I think if we miss a day it's not good....but my homeschooling mommy brain tells me it's okay...and that alter ego breathing down my back disappears.

I am thrilled to start writing about our learning journey...mostly for myself...but hey if anyone reads this, even better! We all know that moms need support and adult conversation too!

Here's to a fantastic new year! Cheers,

I'm new to blogging as well and I just wanted to say that you're so right that your kids are learning just from being with you every day. I hope you find this new experience encouraging!!!
