Feb. 27, 2009 - Five in a Row Review

I have had little experience with Five in a Row (FIAR) except that my two youngest girls went to a co-op class using FIAR. When I was chosen to review this curriculum, I was glad to see what all the girls had been learning.
I received Volume 3, written by Jane Claire Lambert. Jane homeschooled her children and she loves children's literature. She has created Before Five in a Row for ages 2-4, Five in a Row for ages 4-8, and Beyond Five in a Row for ages 8-12.
FIAR covers Social Studies, Science, Math, Art, & Language Arts. I think that's pretty good for $25.
You can pick and choose which activities to do as there are plenty each week. You can just brush the surface of some topics or delve deeper, depending on your child's interest. This curriculum is flexible! Most of the book titles can be found at your local library. You will read the same book all week and do the activities that correspond. You can spend 30 minutes or all day to do the lessons, just make it fun for your child.
I like the curriculum and look forward to checking out Beyond FIAR for my older kids.
