Homeschool Memoirs: #4 Something New

leafed in Homeschool Memoirs

Something new? Let me think.....We always used A.C.E., well except that one year. We used a variety of things to fill in gaps for my oldest when we brought her home from public school after grade 6. We just reallt like the program for us. It is a good fit.

But something new.....Oh! I did order a new thing this year and a Home Ec. course from Christian Light. I want to teach my girls the proper way to arrange and take care of a kitchen. To make grocery lists, to live on a budget and it cook and sew. this course covers it all.  myself, am anticipating the cookbook I ordered to go with it :D.

As well as regular pace work I have added some projects to fill in what I consider gaps. We do book reports, and lapbooks on different subjects. My older girls are right now doing a project on a Prime Minister of their choice and an over view of the others in Canada.

So far the year is going really well and we are excited about the rest of it!

As for me, I am still learning piano for the first time in my life, and instead of leaning on all my friends for help with my blog ( which I know they would help) I did all the changes for fall all by myself. And my hubby likes it :)

Psalms 149:1

Praise ye the Lord. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

I've looked at the home ec from Christian Light before. I've thought about getting it...for me. :-D

Piano is good. You'll never be sorry you studied piano.

Ha! One never knows on HSB what one does to mess up one's template! LOL I'm sure you'll eventually figure it out.

Oh, yes! I was an ACE supervisor for 3 years, then we homeschooled. My two oldest did ACE exclusively until 5th grade, when I started to expand (not far, since this was the late 80s) into other curriculum. Now I'm teaching my 2 little grandkids with the same ABCs of ACE that my DD learned with. I have the LARGE animal cards for stories (from the original ACE school we went to) so it's a blast for the boys.

I love learning new stuff. Blogging has been so much fun. With the help of my oldest child ( he is almost 22) I am learning so much about HTML and other stuff. We are never too old to tackle something new!

Love the fall look! We love doing lapbooks! Last year, I did most of them with my preschooler, but this year my 5th grader is doing them. She loves them! There are some for free on Homeschool Share. You may want to check that out!

That is a great thing I could start doing with my daughter. I would so love to organize my kitchen better, and at 10 she sometimes sees things in a different/great way that I hadn't thought of!

Blessings to you -- and Congratulations on taking piano lessons. I agree with previous comments that it's always good to be learning something new -- it sets a great example for our children -- and you will never regret it. I love sitting down and playing a simple hymn. Wonderful!

The home ec course sounds great. I may just have to look into that for my daughter for next semester or next year. I don't think we would do it over the summer as my kids love working and being out at camp. But if we did it next fall.....thanks for giving me such a good suggestion so far in advance, hopefully I don't for get. :D

Love the new look for Fall.

I want to do this for Hannah next year. WE use Landmark out of Fl. and they have a nice program for home ed I want to get next year.

I don't think girls are being taught the importance of the home instead they are being pushed toward careers.

Have fun!
