BFS Assignment #102 - Try it, You’ll Like It!
leafed in Blooger Friend School
Psalm 26:2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. (KJV)
Assignment: This week I want you to do something for someone else. Do you have a neighbor that needs you? Do you know an elderly person or single mom that could use you? What about the homeless? Pack even one single sack lunch and give it to someone in need. Do you know someone in blogland that is struggling right now and could use a note from you about how much you care? Pray about this. Let God put on your heart the perfect thing for you to do for another. Now, here is the kicker…I DO NOT want you to post about what you do. Whatever you choose to do is between you and God. Our rewards are in heaven, not here on earth, Mathew 6:1. I want you to post about how doing this “act” made you feel. Was stepping out of your comfort zone in this area as hard as you thought it might be? Could you see the gratefulness in their eyes? Hear it in their voice? Tell it from their typing? Do you think you might make doing things like this a more regular part of your time? If this is an area that you are already active in, tell us how you feel this has impacted your life.
I am going to stray a bit here, I hope that is alright. This is something that is near and dear to my heart. I try to be open to doing things the Lord lays on my heart. There is nothing like the feeling of holding a friend who is discouraged as she cries because you brought supper for her family and she was to overwhelmed that day to do it herself. Just taking the step to be a minister to others is so rewarding. I won't tell you all that I have done, because my reward is in heaven and not for anyone else to know. I will tell you this though, lately I have felt discouraged myself and have wondered why I bother. I have felt that it isn't working no one is thankful and no one cares so why keep doing things for people who are not greatful!
This assignment has remined me of why I do this. I think sometimes the Lord will lay someone on my heart, not to be a blessing to them, but because I need it.
I will give you a few ideas ~ bake some bread and give a loaf to someone, nothing like freash bread to show someone you care. Anykind of home baked goodies will perk up someone and show then you will put time into them. Send an e-card with a sweet mesage. A grocery gift certificate for a unemployed friend/family. Stop by with a basket of tea and cookies and just sit and listen to someone who is discouraged. You will find it is a great blessing to your own soul. I will worn you though it is addicting to see the smile on someones face when they know someone does think about them and cares. Remember you show people God's love through your life, I pray we will all be willing to be his ambassadors.
Psalm 86: 1 ~ 5
Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee. Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

So many great ideas! Thank you. You are so right that sometimes God is teaching us something during the process, more so than the service we are doing for someone else.

this whole assignment would have been a shocking one-after all they would have known from birth that this is how we should act. Sadly-our worldly world has lost this (for the most part). I too feel a lot of His instruction to my heart is not necessarily to bless others but to stretch and strengthen me. Good post.

The enemy wants us to be discouraged but it is great that we continue in as God directs us. I love your ideas about making baked goods for others. I know it shows that we are thinking of them. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Love the pictures.

There is a wonderful video on You Tube right now called The Invisible Woman. It is about a woman who feels invisible doing the things she does everyday, but then realizes that the One who truly matters is watching. I hate to leave links to You tube because they move things around so often and you never know what you'll get in its place, but here it is anyway. Hopefully it will lead you there.

What a great post. Thanks for the reminders and suggestions on how to bless someone. I also believe that God uses these situations for both the one being blessed and the one doing the blessing.

Someday you will know the worth of each little act of kindness. Sometimes people don't indicate how it touched them.... But these little acts of kindness do make a difference. Great post.

It is funny how if we can step away from the feeling of entitlement of appreciation we can be so richly blessed. Thank you for sharing what was on your heart. May God richly bless you for reaching out to others.

Yes, you are so right. It is easy to get discouraged and forget WHY we're called to minister in the first place. It's not for accolades. There are many times when we will never know how much one small kindness meant to a person...it's not about us!
Blessings to you!
