I was asked sometime ago to give thought to reviewing some books. I thought well sure. I love to read, my daughters love to read, Why not!

The first book we were asked to review is titled Hymns for a Kid's Heart volume 1. It is written by Bobbie Wolgemuth and Joni Eareckson Tada, and published by Crossway Books (www.crossway.org/blog ). This is a truly beautiful book, we have seen many devotionals for children, but never one that could be geared in so many ways.
This book has a wonderfully written story for each song. Explaining about the song and its author when that person was a young child, making it on a childs level and drawing the child into the small biography in a way that a young child could feel excited and encouraged to try what the author had when they were young.
It then has a small personal story/devotional that is very much on a young childs level. The stories are enduring and encouraging. Just what a child needs to lift them up and make them see the world is not all big, lots of little people can be used by God.
This book also includes the music so that the songs can be played on an instrument and they are written in a very easy way to play. Even myself who is just learning piano can play most of them. Each section ends with a verse of scripture from the bible (ESV) and a small prayer, just to encourage young minds how easy it is to talk to our Heavenly Father.
If you thought all of that was wonderful, just wait! There is also a bonus cd with all of the hymns that are in the book. This cd is so nice, I had it on just last night again. The music is peaceful and uplifting. Song by young voices and very inspiring.

My younger two girls loved learning about some of the songs we sing in church. I as an adult love to know how God has worked in someone's heart and brought them to the place where the words to the hymns flowed out and brought the authors deepest feelings onto paper. My girls just loved knowing that God used young people and they can do things even now for God, and don't have to wait to be an adult.
I would recommend this book to anyone with young children or who was young at heart.
