You Know You are a Homeschool Mom When.......

Planted in Fun

You Know You're A Homeschool Mom When...
You get to change more than diapers, you get to change their minds.

When a child busts a lip, and after seeing she's okay, you round up some scotch tape to capture some blood and look at it under the microscope!

You find dead animals and actually consider saving them to dissect later.

Your children never ever leave the "why?" stage.

When your teenager decides to take one community college course, and comes home and asks you why the teacher wrote "At" on his paper. (A+)

You ask for, and get, a copier instead of a diamond tennis bracelet for your wedding anniversary.

Your kids think reading history is best accomplished while lying on the floor with their head resting on the side of their patient dog.

Your husband can walk in at the end of a long day and tell how the science experiment went just by looking at the house.

You never have to drive your child's forgotten lunch to school.

Your child will never suffer the embarrassment of group showers after PE.

The only debate about the school lunch program is whose turn it is to cook.

You never have to face the dilemna of whether to take your child's side or the teacher's side in a dispute at school.

If your child get's drugs at school, it's probably Tylenol.

Your neighbors think you are insane.

Your formal dining room now has a computer, copy machine, and many book shelves and there are educational posters and maps all over the walls.

You have meal worms growing in a container....on purpose.

If you get caught talking to yourself, you can claim you're having a PTA meeting.

Talking out loud to yourself is a parent/teacher conference.

You take off for a teacher in-service day because the principal needs clean underwear.

You can't make it through a movie without pointing out the historical inaccuracies.

You step on math manipulatives on your pre-dawn stumble to the bathroom.

The teacher gets to kiss the principal in the faculty lounge and no one gossips.

Your honor student can actually read the bumper sticker that you have put on your car.

If your child claims that the dog ate his homework, you can ask the dog.

Some day your children will consider you to be a miracle-working expert and will turn to you for advice.

Your kids refer to the neighbor kids as "government school inmates."

You can't make it through the grocery produce department without asking your preschooler the name and color of every vegetable.

You can't put your produce in your cart without asking your older student to estimate it's weight and verify accuracy.

You live in a one-house schoolroom.

You try to (quickly) capture the huge bee that was knocked unconscious as it accidentally flew into your car window, so the kids can classify and inspect it.

Your bank statement reflects the fact that you spend more at Books-A-Million than at fancy clothing stores.

You've got more books and bookcases than anyone you know.

You DREAM of a room (or even a whole house!) with wall to wall, ceiling to floor bookshelves.

The walls of your dining room are decorated with posters of the Periodic Table of Elements, Map of the Moon, Spanish Conjugation Chart and amoung other posters, not to mention a poster of the Ten Commandments since no one can tell you not to!

You have children draped all over the furniture....and they're reading...for the FUN of it!

Your children actually enjoy spending time with their family, even their siblings!

Your children aren't embarrassed to be seen playing with someone younger than they are!

You are on a first name basis with the majority of local librarians.

You've laughed out loud when someone asked you "What about socialization?"

You know Your Canadian if.....

Planted in Fun

You eat chocolate bars instead of candy bars.
    You drink pop, not soda.
You had a Prime Minister who wasn't fluent in either of the official languages (English & French).
You talk about the weather with strangers and friends alike.
You get milk in bags as well as cartons and plastic jugs.

Pike is a type of fish, not some part of a highway.
You drive on a highway, not a freeway.
You know what a Robertson screwdriver is.
You have Canadian Tire money in your kitchen drawers.
You know that Mounties "don't always look like that."

You know that the Friendly Giant isn't a vegetable product line.
You know that Casey and Finnegan are not a Celtic musical group.
You drive with your headlights on during the day (since 1989, all new cars have been fitted with "daytime running lights").
You wonder why there isn't a 5 dollar coin yet.
You use a red pen on your non-Canadian textbooks and fill in the missing 'u's from labor, honor, color. etc.

You know the French equivalents of "free", "prize", and "no sugar added", thanks to your extensive education in bilingual cereal packaging.
You know what a touque is and you own one and often wear it.
You have heard of ... and have some cherished momento of Bob and Doug McKenzie.
You know Toronto is NOT a province.
You never miss "Coach's Corner" during Hockey Night in Canada.

Back bacon and Kraft Dinner are two of your favourite food groups.
If you live in some of the colder Canadian provinces, your car has a cord and plug sticking out of the grill ... it's a block heater for those sub-zero (in Celsius) days.
You only know three spices: salt, pepper and ketchup.
    The mosquitoes have landing lights.

You have more kilometres on your snow blower than your car.
Canadian Tire Store on any Saturday is busier than most toy stores at Christmas.
Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled in with frozen snow and slush.
The local paper covers national and international headlines on 2 pages, but requires 6 pages for hockey.
You find -40C a little chilly.

The trunk of your car doubles as a portable deep freeze.
You can play road hockey on skates.
The municipality buys a Zamboni before a bus.
You pronounce the last letter of the alphabet "zed" instead of "zee."and ...
You end some sentences with "eh," ... eh?

I saw this on  forum I belong too, I thought it fit me to a T! If it needs credit, please let me know. thanks

Planted in Fun

I want to thank my friend Chrissy, she has given me another award (blushing)!

She makes me feel so special, in a good way. I will come back and edit later to give it to others, but the day is already getting away from me. But I did want to thank her.

The rules read: By accepting this Excellent Blog Award, you have to award it to 10 more people whose blogs you find Excellent Award worthy. You can give it to as many people as you want but please award at least 10. Thank you out there for having such great blogs and being such great friends! You deserve this! Feel free to award people who have already been awarded…

Wow, what a gift.

Planted in Fun

A while ago, I participated in a pay it forward exchange. Yesterday I received a package from Cindy and all i can say is WOW!!!! I never expected it to be so nice. The colours match my kitchen. She included dish cloths, pot holders, lotion, a basket, a crocheted angel, a crocheted butterfly magnet. And CHOCOLATE. I have never had Dove chocolate before, but everything I have heard is good. I can't wait to try one. I can't express how grateful I am, she put so much of herself into a basket full of goodies for someone she hardly knows. You have touched me, I hope we can become better friends.

Now on to other news concrening the pay it forward. When my hubby saw the basket he said there was no way I could just send the christmas ornament. So on Saturday when I get groceries I will be picking up a few extra goodies for the ladies who were in my Pay It Forward. Can't wait. Darrin will help me mail them early next week. I can't wait now I am really excited!

Take The Test.

Planted in Fun

Test for Dementia

B
elow are
four (
4 ) questions and a bonus question. You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time, answer all of them immediately . OK?

Let's find out just how clever you really are....

Ready? GO!!! (scroll down)

First Question:

Y
ou are participating in a race.
You overtake the second person. What position are you in?

Answer:
If you answered that you are first, then you are absolutely wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second!

Try not to mess up next time. Now answer the second question, but
don't take as much time as you took for the first question, OK ?

Second Question:

I
f you overtake the last person, then you are...? (scroll down)

Answer:
If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST person?

You're not very good at this, are you?

Third Question:

V
ery tricky arithmetic! Note: This must be done in your head only . Do NOT use paper and pencil or a
calculator. Try it.

Take
1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000 . Now add 30 . Add another 1000 Now add 20 . Now add another 1000 . Now add 10 What is the total?

Scroll down for answer.....

Did you get
5000 ?

The correct answer is actually 4100.

If you don't believe it, check it with a calculator! Today is definitely not your day, is it? Maybe you'll get the last question right... Maybe.

Fourth Question:

Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini, 4. Nono. What is the name of the fifth daughter?

Did you Answer
Nunu? NO! Of course it isn't.
Her name is
Mary. Read the question again!

Okay, now the bonus round:

A
mute person goes into a shop and wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the action of brushing his teeth he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.
Next, a blind man comes into the shop who wants to buy a pair of sunglasses; how does HE indicate what he wants?

He just has to open his mouth and ask…..It’s really very simple.

Make sure you leave a comment and let me know how you did! I was horrible and of course got all the wrong answers.

Thimbles

Planted in Fun

I was just wondering if anyone out there collects things. I do, I collect thimbles. I had a great collection when I was in High School, but it was lost while I was in College. Since I have been married I have started to collect them again. I now have 20 thimbles from Canada, the States, and Europe. They are lovingly displayed on a wooden shelf my grandfather made for me for this purpose. What do you collect?

Pay it Forward.

Planted in Fun

My friend at Angels of heart is participationg in a pay it forward, I feft a comment on her blog so now I need to "pay it forward"

"Come join in the fun and make the
world a happier place. So this is how it goes...
It’s the Pay It Forward Exchange. It’s based
of the concept of the movie “Pay it Forward”
where acts or deeds of kindness are done
without expecting something in return,
just passing it on, with hope that the recipients
of the acts of kindness are passed on. So here’s
how it works:
I will make and send a handmade
gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment
to this post on my blog
 The gift will be sent
out in January after the  New Year.
What YOU
have to do in return, then, is pay it forward
by making the same promise on your blog.
Unfortunately this is only possible for
those who have a blog."
I will be giving away three homemade christmas ornaments (you will each get one), they are new this year and currently on my tree. I will mail them as soon in January as possible, be patient it may not be til after the 20th. They are frosted red bulbs with pretty red/white/green ribbion. I hope you enjoy them. So leave a comment and remember to pay it forward.

Ladies Retreat?

Planted in Fun

Well it is friday and I am getting ready to go to a ladies retreat inTruro, I think. It ends in the afternoon on saturday, but we are expecting the reminants of a hurrican to come up through our beautiful province tomorrow. So as of now I guess I get ready and wait.   The only problem is I have enough to do that I don't want to go to the bother of packing if I am not going.  Oh well it is in the Lords hands and He know what is going to happen better then me as my hubby so lovingly told me.

On another note my hubby had his birthday on tuesday. He turned 36, which means I can call him old until May, LOL!!!! Then I will be the same age and it won't be funny anymore. ;) ! He loved his cake (chocolate with almond flavored icing) amd his favorite supper of BBQ'd greek porkchops with mashed taters.

Well this is not long but it has been a very busy week what with all these contests to keep up with!  Just kidding. Praying you have a great weekend and avery blessed Sunday!

A family seeking to train up their children to love the Lord and desire to serve Him.
