Apr. 29, 2008 - Lesson Plan software for a Very Busy Mom

Ladies, I found the right lesson plan software that will work for my family. I spoke with someone that represents Edu-track. It will work perfect for the various unit studies and independent studies that I do with my multi age levels (six children to keep track). I can go back and forth between unit studies as a whole and individual studies. I can also see it in the format of a unit or individual. It does keep track of the field trips and ties it in with our studies for the end of the year assessments. I also love the idea of being able to have my pc school information linked to my palm phone (and uploading information later as lesson plans vary and change). That is a great feature. I have to say that one of the great things I found is that there are over 30 Hands of a Child lapbooks that I can buy for very little money so I don't even have to enter the lapbook lesson plans to the computer nor my palm phone. It is all done for me. I was impressed to find Saxon and Shurley English are all on there (an entire year worth of lesson for just a little over a dollar), and there are a ton more of other companies materials with already done lesson plans. This will save a ton of time in lesson plan entries. I think this is the software that will work best for my family.

If anyone wants to try a software lesson plan for free, I think homeschool tracker was great. I really liked the format. It also helps keep track of many different levels of children and their studies, independent reading logs, field trips, and much more.

I look forward to having more time to give to my children. I look forward to saying good bye to my hour to two hour lesson plan writing, yeah!

God bless,
Missy

PS Has anyone checked out Big Oven? That 30 dollar investment saves me hours and hours every week to plan out my menus and recipes. It organizes all my groceries for the grocery story (organizing dairy, meats, veggies, etc.) for even a month at a time which you can print. It will double, triple, or quad. servings or cut them in half (great way to avoid measurement mistakes). I can transport recipes to add to the thousands they have on their site to my recipe box for my menu planning (pretty neat). I can even sync up my cell phone to my computer and download it all there (makes shopping easy). No, I don't get any money for mentioning it. I just know how it helped me to also give me more time to focus on the children.

Apr. 24, 2008 - 2 FREEE HOC LAPBOOKS!!

For those of you who have never tried a lap books but want to venture out into this, here is your chance. I just found out today that there is a currclick.com free HOC (Hands of a Child) Art Appreciation lapbook. It is one of their best recent lapbooks! It will save you hours and hours of research. They did it all for you.  Also, if you haven't been to HOC website, check it out. I love my membership that offers me lots of free stuff all year long (worth the money). There is a free quarterly  lap book, Amelia Earhart. It is another quick easy free down load. HOC does a free lap book once every four months. This one expires in June. By the way, for those who are interested in trying out the lapbooks, check out my other recent entry with tons of links and resources for lap booking. It took me hours and hours to research lap booking because I wanted to learn how to do it. The entry is the result of all that work, making the path easier for those behind me.

P.S. lap book is also called shutter books...  Lapbooking is an actual copyright name. I don't know if it is with a space beteen the words or not..lap book or lapbooking.

In Christ,
Missy

Here is a great time line video to watch online. It is 10 min. length.  I want to get the four animated time line dvds. They have great clips to view.
