Dec. 8, 2007 - New Book Review: The Heart of the Home Schooling & Surprise Breakfast
New Book Review: The Heart of the Home Schooling Teaching & Living What Really Matters by Christopher Klicka.
I have absolutely loved borrowing this book from my library. I think it is a must for my bookshelf. I have been rereading it over and over. It has so many good nuggets in it. The authors are both the husband (first section of the book dedicated to helping dads-dad to dad advice for homeschooling) and wife (woman to woman about homeschooling) in the second half of the book. The author, husband and wife, have seven children. The forward is done by Elizabeth Elliott. I really found the chapter, "Understanding Suffering in the Midst of Home Schooling" and "The Home Schooling Mother: God is My Strength". This is one book that you will want to read over and over. It is an unusual book in that the author is very transparent and authentic. It is a book that is a spring in a dessert. I have been blessed by it. I hope you get a chance to sit back, drink some coffee or tea, and just enjoy a few moments reading this book.
P.S. Go to No Greater Joy blog. Read Homeschool thru The Tough Times. It is a great encouragement.

Surprise Breakfast your your sweeties:
Egg Biscuits
Scramble egg mix (eggs, milk) which gets put into a shallow rectangular pan (I like to use my Pampered Chef stone rectangular piece) Cook this at 325 until done. Place biscuits in oven at same time. You might also put in some sausage rounds, too. When it is all finished just slice the biscuits open. Then cut out squares from egg that was cooked in oven. Place that and a sausage round on the biscuit and close the lid. We add cheese to those who want it. (hint: sneak a veggie into it. I like a bit of dry spinach leaves into the mix or some onions..whatever my children like as favorites)
Doughnuts
1 1/2 c. water
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. oil
4 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. yeast
Mix this with dry ingredients first. Then fry the doughnuts in oil. Don't forget to poke the hole in the middle. We will mix these in powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or frost them. This is a fun way to wake up for the holiday times. (hint: make the dough before you go to bed and stick it in the refrigerator. You can also use store bought premade biscuit and cut a hole in the middle of them if you don't have the time to make the dough). Enjoy!!
