The Joy of Homeschooling

May. 28, 2008 - Homeschool Fun Ideas

We are homeschooling through the summer months. Our mornings are full of phonics, English, Math, Maps, and Greek/Latin while the afternoon is Truthquest reading and lapbooking, which was fun to do in the sunshine today ( we haven't seen the sun in many days). But, we are turning up the fun schooling this next week with some additional pizzaz, extra excitement. Here are the ideas the children and I came up with to add some fun:

Thursday-crazy hair day in which we all do something crazy to our hair while we study together
Friday-pajama day while we study
Monday-crazy hat day
Tuesday-inside out day (wear something inside out)
Wednesday-school at the park
Thursday-dress up with costumes/character while study
Friday-school on the front porch

Here is a fun idea for anyone that wants to adapt it for the summer. We might do this again. Click here for the old link about the I Love You Jar. Does anyone else do different things for the summer months of schooling?

Sounds like fun!
We are going through the summer too, albeit in a more relaxed way, especially since we have a baby due in Sept, right when we would be starting school, if we didn't go through the summer. :)

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I checked out Farkel, and it is almost exactly like a game I played growing up, but we called it "Ten Thousand". The only differences were that you have to start with 1,000 to "get on the board", and rolling three 1's = 1,000. Three 2's=200, and so forth, the same as your three of a kinds. Oh, and we played that if you got four of a kind, it would double your three of a kind. For example, instead of three 1's being 1,000, four 1's would become 2,000! :-D
I haven't played this with my kids, yet, though. Thanks for the reminder! I haven't thought of this game in a long time. :)

I just LOVE this idea. Growing up I went to a Christian private school and we did things like this once every other month or so. I don't know why I didn't think of something like this before. Thanks for sharing. Since we also will be schooling through most of the Summer, I think this will make it more fun for us all.
