Mr. Popper's Penguins

We absolutely LOVED this unit!!  We read a chapter a day, and we lapbooked each chapter.  During the course of this unit we learned about:

  • the differences between the Arctic and Antarctica
  • there are 17 species of penguins, and they all live in the southern hemisphere
  • adjectives, alliteration, alphabetical order, compound words, and contractions
  • calculated bus fare and bail for Mr. Popper and his 12 penguins
  • an artist's use of contrast
  • seals, krill, polar bears, and penguins

We had so much fun.  The kids looked forward to this unit every day.

We used the lapbook components from Homeschool Share and the Easy Make and Learn: Penguins book from Scholastic.

Please tell your kiddos that they did excellent. Mr. Popper's Penguins is my favorite unit that we have done to date. The book is just so much fun and has so many (too many!) learning possibilities! :)
