Potty Training

Ahh, yes, the wonderful world of potty training. I've been fully engulfed in it for a week now. We tried it once a month or two ago, but it didn't last. I probably should've started LAST YEAR at this time, since she was ready then. Well, at least she seemed ready...kept telling me when her diaper was wet, hiding to go potty, etc. Yeah, she was ready. But I wasn't. I just couldn't work myself up to going through it again after the last one....my challenge. I was dreading another round of a stubborn mule-child not wanting to go pee in the toilet. You'd think they'd welcome the chance not to have a pee pee diaper up against their skin or poop in the trunk of their car.  But my now 7 yr old was a major challenge when we 'trained' her. She would wait til I got her off the toilet (after a LONG time waiting for her to go) and then just let loose right in front of it.  Every time! I had been dreading a similar experience with this one, because she is just as stubborn...if not moreso. During our first attempt a couple of months ago, that is exactly what happened. I was ready to pull my hair out and cry.  I had missed our homeschool gym several times due to staying at home, trying to get her to go. I refused to put her in a diaper just for a nap, just so she could go in it and hold it again til late at night. So, I had to be there all day and not go to gym.  The girls were disappointed, but I had to do this. Sadly, our journey was cut short. I couldn't take it. My fortitude just wasn't strong enough yet. But I am now!! We are a week into the battle and it's been going rather well. She has had only 3 or 4 accidents the whole week. But she has been coming to get us every time! I'm so proud of her. She's still being real stubborn about actually going, while sitting on the toilet...takes her a little while of sitting there. But finally she goes and is very proud of herself...as are we.  She still refuses to go poo in the john (thus one accident of the really smelly kind), but am hoping that she will poo at least once...sometime real soon, so she can see how easy it is! I've even enlisted the older girls to take her in there with them while they go, so she can see what big girls they are when they go on the toilet. I must admit, she's captivated, but hasn't done it herself.  Oh well...she can only hold so much so long!
