My nephew, Dakota, was diagnosed last year with autism. He is a very vibrant young boy, full of love and laughter but has trouble communicating with others. He also has ADHD and some other problems on top of this. Recently, my sis (his mom) found out about assistance dogs available to autistic children! She checked it out and went through the process of getting him approved for one of these dogs. However, these dogs cost a LOT to train since they are trained in search & rescue as well as stopping repetitive disruptive behaviors in autistic children. It's a $14,000 price tag. Yep, it's steep but well worth it for kids like this. They often run off or try to escape the house...and are quite good at it. A dog like this could save a life..in particular Dakota's...he lives on a busy street. The organization that provides these assistance dogs is called ' 4 Paws for Ability'. My nephew's website is www.fourpawsfordakota.com . All donation info. is at this site. If you are willing and able to make a donation toward his dog, please do so! Just make sure your donation specifies that it is toward his dog, else it will go into a general fund. He will not get his dog until ALL the money has been raised. We are also going around to local businesses/schools/churches to put out collection jars that they can fill and send in. Please pass this info. to family/friends that you think might want to help. Thanks to all!
