A Day in the Life...

A New Day

Well, today went much better than yesterday...though just as long. However, it was an extended day for good reasons...not procrastination by kids or chasing down my lil screamer. I received some books in the mail that I had ordered for myself and the hubby off of the 'Familyman Ministries' website. I ordered the bathroom book for hubby (ha ha!) and those homeschool cartoons for me! I couldn't help it. I needed a 'pick me up' and so I ordered! ha ha! Well, they arrived today, and my girls and I sat and read a bunch of the cartoons and giggled for quite some time. Some of them, I outright rolled because of how funny they were...probably cause so many were true! That man truly has a talent for cartooning. With humor like that, I bet he's a real pill at home as well! The cartoons gave us a nice reprieve from our regular schedule today. I was glad.

My seven year old is starting to read small words on her own now. Just the three letter variety...but that's good!! I was so happy for her! And the joy on her face today!! It has been a long haul with her and phonics. She has speech problems which greatly inhibit her ability to pronounce sounds properly. Yes, she had speech therapy for two years, yet they said 'she no longer needs it'. Personally, I think they just wanted to move on and push her through their program. She REALLY needs more speech help, yet we cannot afford it on our own. Soooo...I have been going pretty slowly with her this year on the phonics.  She still stumbles through a lot of the sounds...reverses letters frequently or gets confused between letters. Some of this is age related, I know...yet some of it I am watching for other problems..like dyslexia, etc. I will have to wait and see how she does. But she was practically jumping for joy (and rightly so) over reading these three-letter words! I told her that I would go out in my box of homeschool stuff and find some beginner reader books that have only three-letter words...so that she can read them. This thrilled her. I know she won't be reading 'great' by the end of this year, but she will have a good start...which is all she needs right now.
