Today we only got a little bit of schooling done before my hubby had to borrow the neighbor's car to head down to Dayton Children's (the van is still in the shop, til Friday). You see, Children's is where our dentist is located for our girls, which is where he was headed. I'll explain. Yesterday, while enjoy the beautiful spring weather and a weekend off for my hubby (including today), we all decided to play ball in the back yard. Ah yes, I know you can already see this coming . Anywho, after having a blast playing with the girls, as well as the neighbor girls, we stopped playing ball. I decided to head inside for a few and let them all play in the backyard as usual. I looked down at the ball gloves, softball, and bat on my way in. I had a quick-flashing thought to bring the bat inside to the garage, but decided to leave it in case they wanted to play some more. BIG MISTAKE! Not thirty seconds inside, I heard loud screaming. I quickly turned back around and headed out the back. My husband was already there, having come from our next door neighbor's who he had decided to go chat with. My hubby was holding our seven-year old and looking at her mouth, which was covered in blood. I ran over and looked. Her bottom lip was cut wide open and half of her top tooth was missing. My eldest daughter was crying hysterically as well, apologizing with every gasp in between wails. We brought them all inside and quickly got a wet washcloth on our daughter's lip. She was crying, but not as bad as my eldest..who wasn't even hurt. So, I had to calm them both down. I found out what had happened. Here goes... My eldest was wanting to bat a few more rounds on her own, while my seven-year old wanted to ride her bike. Well, my eldest went to bat out in the grass and my other daughter rode her bike behind her, not even paying attention to what her sister was about to do. Evidently, neither was paying attention to her surroundings until the bat made contact with the other's mouth. Yep..knocked her clean off her bike. We are lucky it wasn't worse. I ran our seven year old down to Children's to see if she'd need stitches for the gaping hole in her bottom lip. Luckily, it was superficial and didn't need any. However, she is to stay away from anything crunchy, pointy, or salty for a few days (duh! Ya think?). Her tooth...well, the hubby took her back down today and they were able to bond her tooth. She is not allowed to bite into anything hard, chewy, etc until she is much older and can have it capped. (usually between 14-16 yrs old) They do not cap them until the teeth are completely done moving/growing in the mouth. She did have enough tooth left on the one though to have braces still, if she needs them. So that was good. At least they were able to fix it, to an extent. And that's another exciting day at our house! |
