I decided to participate in this week's "Mondays On Mothering", started by blogger mom Bow of Bronze. I love a lot of things about being a mother, though sometimes my joy seems to be encompassed by irritation on some days by those little things children always do...like dumping all the q-tips into the john, calling names, hitting each other, etc. Those are just a few. However, I do love a good many other things. My favorites are watching my girls play out in our backyard, watching them sit quietly doing their schoolwork (yes, I find it fun to just sit and watch them learning), and watching them sleep...or in my youngest's case, cuddling with her in my bed while she sleeps. Watching them play outside brings back so many memories of my own childhood, playing with neighbors til our streetlights came on. It gives me a feeling of contentment, knowing that they are enjoying themselves, their friends, and their childhood. I know my own mother must have felt the same way. I usually have to snap a bunch of pics with my camera to preserve the moment. I'm so lucky it's a digital camera...I can take so many more pics of my lil beauties!! Love it! School...well, I just like watching them learn...to know that they are filling their minds with something useful, not just tv. You can almost see the little gears turning in their heads as they read their grammar lessons or geography. Its also a feeling of self-satisfaction that I'm doing the right thing by keeping them home where they belong. Lastly, but surely not least...watching them sleep. I love knowing that they are at home, safe in their beds and dreaming. I reminisce about our days of learning, laughing and playing and can't imagine having more wonderful kids than the ones I have! I think of when they were babies and I rocked them to sleep in my arms and how I miss them being so small. Oh, how they grow so fast! Each night, my youngest crawls into my bed, despite being put in her own. She always asks me to do 'piggies'...which is "This lil piggy went to the market..." I have to do BOTH feet, else she gets upset. NEXT, I have to tell her the 'princess story with the pink pony'...which is her and a beeyouuutiful pony with WINGS! She loves that story, though I change it a little each time. ha ha! Finally, I have to sing "Twinkle little star". Then she is ready to wrap her arm over mine, pat my arm with her tiny hand and fall asleep. My other girls ask me to sing them songs as well, but not as often. But I love these little things, as I will always remember them and hope they will too. I know that too soon they will be grown and one day have homes of their own. I just want to cherish every minute of life with them while they are here. I love being a mom.
