Church Camp Has Begun!

We just dropped off my eldest at church camp a little while ago. It is her first time staying away from family and friends. I am confident she will make plenty of new friends, as girls were already introducing themselves to her when we were getting her settled into her cabin. I think this is actually going to be harder on me, really. I miss my baby already.   I'm such a sap! (The great thing about being a homeschool mommy...she's always with me! )  As a very experienced camper, I know once the first night is out of the way, she will not have a second thought about us til it's time for us to pick her up and even then she'll want more time with her new friends! She will be so busy with activities that she'll have no time to miss us! But that's the fun of camp...new friends and plenty of wonderful experiences and memories! I'm very happy we were able to send her...at least one year. (Our second born goes next week.)

The camp was pretty cool though...has archery, climbing wall, putt-putt golf, horseshoes, tetherball, volleyball, 'blob' on the lake, water seesaw, water trampoline, paddle boats, and horseback riding. It ought to be a full week! They will also have daily Bible studies, which is what I like too. We really wanted them to attend a Christian camp, where they can have both fun and learn about God at the same time.

My eldest will be in my prayers all week for her safety, new friendships, fun,  as well as a working in her heart for an even stronger love for God than she already has.

My middle daughter has been wanting to go to church camp so bad this summer. It's for a weekend in a couple weeks. I have been so unsure about it. Our oldest didn't get to go until she was older. My middle daughter is almost 11 and I'm having trouble letting her go. :-(

My first year as a camper was when I was 8. It was scary the first night, but once all the activities started I was no longer homesick. My eldest turns 12 tomorrow WHILE she's at camp and she was pretty nervous about it all. However, I'm confident that she's old enough to handle it and will have a terrific time. It's just ME that needs to! ha ha!

I wanna go!
Really I understand your feelings of it being hard to let go. We want to be there to filter everything for them and be sure that they aren't being treated unfairly. Those are my feelings anyway. But we do have to loosen the grip gradually so that they can gain the self confidence they need to be able to step out as the christian that God wants them to be. Just so hard for this over protective Mama.
Blessings, Julie

Praying for her, but more for you! My oldest is going to "Cousin Camp" next week hosted by my mil. She'll be w/ family, but I still don't know if I like her being gone for a whole week!

Cousin Camp?!! That's too awesome...and funny! At least they'll be with family...probably having a blast too!
I too have a problem with 'loosening my grip' and letting them experience things...even unfairness. I see this as an opportunity for myself to do a little growing as well as my daughter..to give her a sense of more independence by being away from home for a longer period of time than just one night at a friend's house for b-day's,etc. I got a call from the camp earlier to let me know how she's doing. Apparently, she's doing GREAT...even slimed the director during one of their games! ha ha! So happy for her!
