A Day in the Life...
Feb. 23, 2009
Surgery Postponed

This  morning the surgeons office called to tell me that my surgery has been postponed. The nurse said that my pre-operative labwork came back with some high levels for my liver reading. So, they are scheduling me with a specialist for my liver now. I asked the woman what that meant and she would only tell me that I'd have to talk to the specialist about it.  But she made sure to ask me if I'd been drinking a lot! I told her that if Tylenol Cold/Flu and Nyquil count (over the past week), then yes. But no...me nor my husband drink except for maybe once or twice a year when out on a date and it's usually only me, by getting a daquiri or margarita. She said they aren't allowed to do surgery on me until my liver is functioning properly....whatever that means. Geesh. If it's not one thing it's another. So now I've been pondering all the horrible possibilities of liver disease since they wouldn't tell me a thing over the phone. I'm hoping/praying it's just a mis-read test, a temporary high level from the otc meds from this cold or something benign like that. So, keep me in your prayers. I'm kind of nervous/scared.

UPDATE: I am having my appt with the liver specialist on Thursday morning. I'm hoping it's nothing major...or nothing at all. Keep prayin'!

Yep...that Nyquil will get ya everytime! lol I'll bet that was what is was. It's weird how the body can 'hold' things like that and then those tests - that can only diagnose what they're given in a certain way - can throw up all sorts of unnecessary flags. I know a girl who almost lost her job b/c they did an unannounced drup test at her job and she came back positive for heroine! She had eaten a couple of the poppyseed muffins at that restaurant in Troy that looks like a schoolhouse (it just recently closed)! lol I'm praying that everything will be OK.

Oh my...I didn't know poppy seeds could do that!! But it makes sense, since it is an opiat. Wow...I sure hope your friend keeps her job. That would be terrrible. Would have to write Highmarks for not putting a drug warning on their muffins. lol! :)
