Roller Skating & Shells
Earlier today, my older two girls had an Awana activity for T & T (Truth & Training). They went roller skating at a local Skateworld. I went ahead and dropped them off...making sure they were with the group leaders first. Then, myself and my younger two daughters headed off for some lunch and a visit to the local nature preserve. We went to Taylorsville, which is very peaceful and pretty. And today has been so warm!! Beautiful breezes as well, which make for wonderful outdoor activities. I took them down by the shore of the Great Miami River to look around. We ended up picking up all kinds of shells. Some were from snails and many others were from freshwater mollusks. Oh..and some were absolutely gorgeous with their pearlescent coatings on their insides! We washed them off in the water and pocketed them away while we looked for more. The time passed quickly. After an hour and a half of looking, washing, and pocketing, we headed back to Skateworld to pick up the older two. We got there about 15 minutes early (since it's right down the road from the preserve), so we sat in the van for a few listening to more Adventures In Odyssey. When we finally went inside, I found my girls very close to the entrance doors talking. However, my second oldest was still crying from a fall she had had on the rink. Evidently, an older teen boy (not with the Awana group) had skated by and knocked her down. Her mouth hit the floor, after doing the splits on her skates, and she busted her lip. She had ice on it, but was still throbbing pretty good. It had happened not a few minutes before I had come in the door. Made me wish I had come in as soon as I had got there and maybe she'd have been off the rink already. Oh well...not like I could've known anyhow. But I still wish she didn't have to experience that. To cheer her up and treat the others, along with their two friends that were with us; I took them to get frosties at Wendy's. I got all smiles from them, so that made me happy. Plus, the cold from the frosty sure felt great on my daughter's puffy lip. Aside from that, they had a wonderful time skating. And the rest of us had a terrific time looking for 'seashells'. lol!! |
