The Gluten-Free Diet

I got onto Yahoo's homepage earlier and saw a video segment with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the View's hosts. She is such a wonderful person and shares something in common with myself, my four daughters, my twin sis and some other suspected family members....Celiac Disease. Her story is a lot like my own. She too had symptoms of GI discomfort (abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, gas) for years, just as I did. I had my symptoms for well over ten years before self-diagnosing...just like her. I too couldn't find a doctor to do the testing. Unfortunately, there are many others out there with similar symptoms or totally different ones (yes, that too can happen) that also suffer from Celiac Disease or a lesser form of it called Gluten Intolerance.  Elisabeth just wrote a book about her journey and all the ins and outs of Celiac Disease, the gluten-free diet, etc. It's called "The G-Free Diet".  The following link has an excerpt from her new book, along with a video clip of her interview and also links to her favorite gluten-free recipes! Check it out! You never know....symptoms you may have been experiencing (there are over 300 symptoms!) could be related to this simple diet ingredient found in many common foods. And if ya wanna know, all my symptoms disappeared after going gluten free...the bloating, that terrible abdominal pain that hurt ALL the time, the running to the bathroom ALL the time..all of it. It's great to be gluten-free!!

Jun. 26, 2009 - Celiac

My celiac symptoms were like chronic fatigue, although at first they thought it was cancer.

There are so many symptoms, and it is so common! About 1 in 133, I read several times, have the genes.
Wow!

I'm glad you figured out what it was.
