Karate

My oldest two take karate. They are orange belts. They love it and practice. I was always scared of martial arts as I was afraid they were going to fill my kids head with eastern religion. However three years ago my homeschool group found a christian 22 year old black belt to start giving lessons.  It is not true karate but tong so du (sp?).  It is great to see my kids enjoy something together. They practice and help each other learn all of their forms.  I hope my dd will continue to come as long as she can. It is wonderful to see their hard work paid off by earning a stripe or the next belt.

That sounds really awesome. How can I find a Christian black belt to teach in my area? My children would love that! So would I!

Do you have any other exercise advice for homeschoolers?

Mar. 5, 2008 - Karate is so great...

... our older two boys take it and it is so helpful to them. I was worried that our 9 year old would have a tough time as he isn't very athletic, but his teacher is a patient, understanding Christian who tries very hard to be a good role model, and takes them on outings such as to the beach or to the sno-park, and prays with them from time to time. He passed out those Michael Pearl Bible comic books to the kids, and has Bible studies with the older ones. After a year, our 9 year old now has all the stripes on his white belt, (he got the last one Monday)and will be testing for the yellow in a week or two.
