Homeschooling mom to three babies

• Dec. 21, 2006 - Dylan my handsome prince

Dylan is my little man. He is so awesome and smart! He loves transformers, wants to be a builder, a doctor , and a recycler when he grows up, and is super smart. He is a great big brother and an even better son. My old blog www.homeschoolblogger.com/jaelle has all the things we have been doing up to this date, but unfortunately im having problems getting into it, so I have started this new one, and even learned how to put pics in! So I am just going to write what Dylan did for school today , but keep in mind I have been very sick and in hospital, so now that Im home and recuperating, school has been pretty easy going!! But that is ok, they are only 5,4, and 2 and they are all really smart. My main goal in homeschooling my children is to always make sure that learning is fun for them, so they will have a lifelong love for it .

Here is what we have been up to for the last week. We made a Laura Ingalls Wilder frontier town. The kids love the smaller childrens versions of the books, and I adore the regular little house books, so we thought this would be fun, thanks Shiloah for the idea! We made them from templates from a website and we ended up making a barbershop, lumberyard, pharmacy, church, hotel, house, general store, school, and dressmakers shop! It was fun! We read about what different things cost in a frontier town, etc, then read the childrens little house book "Dance at Grandma's House"

Silly kids!! Still in their jammies doing school!

Dylan has been working on his spelling list for this week. He is working on the words "at, an, and" he reads them out loud, spells them out loud, then writes them on his writing pad three times each. He is doing this every day, then he has a "spelling test" on fridays, which he gets really excited about! So cute!

For Gospel we have read Ruth, and Exodus 20 from the Bible and made Ruth and Moses bookmarks for the kids to use in their scriptures. We also did a lesson from ctr book about Love at Home and read the lyrics to the hymn , "let us oft speak kind words". They did a love at home puzzle. We talked about some new family rules and set up a sticker chart for good behavior and it is working wonderfully!

For Character Training we read 10 books from the sesame street series "my first manners" these books were, " Let's Share", "Taking Turns", "Be Polite", "Good for you", "Please and Thank you, " Working Together", "Be a friend!", and " All about feelings".

We've done a couple of arts and crafts projects, we have made a christmas card holder:

Which is very full now!!! and we made some really cute candy cane bead ornaments, but my darn camera cable thing isnt working so I will have to load pics the old fashioned way, getting them developed then scanning!! So I will post a pic of those later, they turned out cute and we had so much fun making them, we put on Christmas music and sang really loudly while we beaded the candy canes! Even Sydney who is only 2, was beading them, practically faster than me ( but hey, I was trying to tie the ends and put hooks and ribbons on in between actually doing one!!!)

We are still patiently waiting for Dylan's Karl Maeser Academy books to come in. Then he can get down to business, but they must be swamped or something, because we ordered almost two weeks ago, paid 22 dollars for 2 day shipping, never received them, wrote two emails, tried to call place, then finally received email back apologizing and saying they would overnight express it, please pick something from the book store that was the same cost as the shipping, which i did then emailed back and told them i was impressed with their business for offering to overnight it, etc. well, that was three days ago, I have sent another email, and havent received anything back. Go figure. I will try and call again tomorrow , and send another email. Gee whiz.

Ok, Im tired! Until Tomorrow......
