May. 13, 2007 - Mother's Day Presents
Posted in Crafts

Here are some pictures of the presents I made for various 'mother's' in my life. That is all but my own mom. I will buy her a potted tree on Monday.

First, we have a wall vase made out of polymer clay. I made it using white clay, so yes I painted it all by hand. I guess that's what I get for being cheap.

Next, we have a votive candle holder. This was actually part of our crafting project for school yesterday. This one was mine. It is made by gluing tissue paper onto the glass.

Then, we have a t-shirt for my hubby's Grandmother. Which would make her my kids Great-Grandmother. I don't know if you can read it. It says " Great-Grandma's Bragging Shirt." The pictures were drawn by the kids with their handwritten names under them. The face on the person is their real face.

Last, we have a t-shirt for my DH's parents. It is a co Mother's Day/Father's Day present for them. My original idea is just like above, names changed of course. Leave it to my DS2 to change my plans. His idea is the one I used. It states, "I'm a Grandma and all I get is this lousy t-shirt!" with Grandpa for his. He thinks its cute and I guess I do also.

I figure the shirts are like multiple gifts. They get the shirt, the kids latest pictures, the kids drawings, and their names in their own handwriting. How neat is that?

Apr. 19, 2007 - New outfits
Posted in Crafts

I have been working on some summery outfits for my DD. She is a clothes fanatic to say the least. I usually let her pick her own fabrics and sometimes patterns. After all the troubles I have had with patterns lately, I'm about to only venture out on my own. Yeah, probably not.

These two are from It's So Easy Simplicity 3860

This set is from It's So Easy Simplicity 4147

I had to change the shirt on it though. I made mine where you can button it in the back because she hates tight shirts.

The camo skirt used to be her brother's shorts. This redo was her idea.

On another crafty note....

Lera over at Lera's Sewing Projects, sent me her pattern for making tissue pouches. I figured these would make quick little gifts for everyone. Each time I cut fabric for something, I plan on cutting up one of these and making it first. That way I have some handy, just in case.

Plus, I made two pairs of shorts for my DS2. Here is a pic of the last one. He picked out the fabric. The other pair is green with yellow streaks. His choice again.

Apr. 11, 2007 - Origami Bag
Posted in Crafts

sewing-machine-working.gif

I have been working on some outfits for my DD today. I would have been finished if I didn't have a business appointment. (I hate those). The kids and I did however get to play some tennis today. They need a little, well, a lot of practice. They had me running to pick up balls more than anything.

Here is a link I found for this awesome bag. I'm definitely trying this one soon. Maybe I can use the leftover fabric from my DD's Easter dress.

Apr. 9, 2007 - Easter Dress
Posted in Crafts

easter-dress.jpg easter-dress-back.jpg

I worked for five hours on this dress EASTER MORNING. Yes, talk about last minute things. I kept putting it off. Plans to finish it on Saturday backfired because my DH took me out to eat. Did I mention that it was in another state. I really like the Sagebrush over in Canton, North Carolina. I'm not sure why. We have one here, one in the next county over, and another on the drive there. Go figure.

Back to the dress:
My DD picked out the fabric, so do go blaming me for all the color. She is a colorful child. She also picked out the pattern. This was my first attempt at doing the bubble skirt. Not too bad of a design. I had to have my DH do a little 'frogging' for me. I only messed up about four times. That's good for me.

As for Easter:
We spent the day at my DH's parents and Aunt's house. The kids had a blast hiding and rehiding and rehiding the eggs. Those poor little eggs were beat to death.

Maybe next year I can get an earlier start.

Apr. 6, 2007 - Spring / Easter Craft
Posted in Crafts

Here is a little craft the children and I did about a week or two ago.  I was hoping it would get us in the spring mood.  They are giving them to certain people for Easter presents.  These flowers will last a life time.

MATERIALS:
Styrofoam cup                           Plaster-of-Paris
1 group of fake flowers                Paints
ribbon or embellishments

All we did was:
1.  Mix up some plaster-of-paris.
2.  Pour it into a styrofoam cup.
3.  Stick your group of clipped fake flowers into the plaster.
4.  Let set for around 24 hours.
5.  Remove cup.
6.  Paint a couple of coats or designs.
7.  Add ribbon embellishments.

Now you are ready to enjoy or give away as a present.

Feb. 22, 2006 - Sunbonnet Sue Doorstops
Posted in Crafts

I made my MIL one of these for Christmas.  She absolutely loved it.  Her's was a lighter blue.  I don't have a pic of it anymore.  Here sister wanted one, so she is now the proud owner of the brown one.  My hubby's aunt gets the blue Scooby Doo.  You have to know her to understand why the fabric.  Her house is colorful and my son loves the dog.  My dd has the pink one in her room.  She told me that I had to make her one.

I got the pattern off of freepatterns.com.  It is totally free to sign up.  You do have to register though.  I love all their patterns.  The sunbonnet sue doorstop was actually easy to do.  She has a 2-liter soda bottle under her dress filled with sand.  Who knew?
