Apr. 20, 2008 - Car Shows...gotta love 'em!
Posted in Just Talk

My dear husband is a car lover.  The kids and I ....not so much.  We let him endulge in his 'redneckism' every now and then.  Since we live in tourist town, USA, we have car shows just about all summer long.

I thought I'd throw a few pics up so people can see why you should call ahead to find out if a car show is going on in a town you want to visit. (Great info for myself, since the last time we went to Myrtle Beach they had a motorcycle rally that we didn't know about. <--although DH enjoyed that one too.)

On the better note....we did find out that Pigeon Forge has a new roller rink.  That shows you how much I get to town.

DS2 - Trust me ...he's just smiling for the camera

DD - She knows the way to travel

Here is a pic of DD's little baby.  She seen me making baby bibs and had to have one for her baby.

Apr. 19, 2008 - POEM - Little Girl who follows me
Posted in Just Talk

My little girl and I were in the restroom at our local Wal-Mart.  Someone had put these little books in there with this poem in it.  I'm not sure who did it or who wrote it, but it is cute none the less.... (I did a google search and found more than a few hits on this poem.)

"  A careful woman I ought to be:
        A little girl follows me;
I do not dare to go a stray
For fear she'll go the self-same way.

   I cannot once escape her eyes;
What're she sees me do, she tries
Like me, she says, she 's going to be,
The little girl who follows me.

She thinks that I am good and fine,
      Believes in every word of mine;
The base in me she must not see,
The little girl who follows me.

I must remember as I go,
Through summer's sun and winter's snow,
I am building for the years to be,
For a little girl follows me.    "

Mar. 28, 2008 - Sticky Fun
Posted in Just Talk

What are you supposed to say when your 10yo asks you if he can build a fire?

DS2: "Can I build a fire?"
MOM: "Do we have marshmallows?"
DS2: "I don't know."
MOM: "Go look.  If we don't, I'll go get some."
MOM: "Wait!  Go ask your Dad."
DS2(to dad): "Can I build a fire?"
DAD: "Do we have marshmallows?" <--I swear he was on the other side of the house when I answered the first time.
DS2: "Mom is going to get some."
DAD: "Do we have hot dogs?"
DS2: "I think so."
DAD: "Go get some wood together and wait on the marshmallows."
...I had to go to FOUR stores to buy marshmallows.  There must have been a run on them or something.  I ended up having to drive all the way to town.  The hot dogs went to fast for me to even get a glance at..let alone a picture. Here are some sticky pics....

Gotta look stylin' while getting sticky

Get a load of my DH's latest haircut!  I'm not sure what he was thinking on that one...or if he even was! LOL  He went to a friend's house and came home looking like that.  I didn't do it.

Mar. 24, 2008 - More little additions
Posted in Just Talk

I had to run to town this morning and called ahead to the local co-op to find out about their chickens.  I ended up running over there and buying five more.  My DH told me to get the Rhode Island Reds.  <--Like I could tell the difference...I'm hoping the guy at the store knows what he's talking about.

I'm so saddened by the fact that they have had their little beaks clipped.  WHY?  That seems so cruel.  I mize well kill them and eat them now...NOT!  No one is eating my babies.

That makes a total of 11 chickies and 2 ducklings.  Now to get a cow for milk...LOL..that was just a joke.

Mar. 24, 2008 - Easter Memories 2008
Posted in Just Talk

Wow!  I can't believe this year is going by so fast.  I remember last Easter.  I spent the whole morning sewing my daughter's Easter dress.  Thankfully, this year I got it done the day before.  I must like to cut it close on timing.  I guess that's why I file my taxes on the last day.

This Easter was different.  The kids woke up with baskets of crackers and juice boxes on the table (alongside the ducklings and chickies).  I have never made the kids a basket before and my DD had been wanting one of those pre-made ones from the stores.  When my Mom heard about my never doing baskets, she told the kids about how we ALWAYS got one.  I hope they don't expect one next year.  That was too much trouble.

Anyways, I guess now I have to get ready to file my taxes.  I finished my in-laws today.  I have theirs down to a science.  The lady has us scheduled for two hours.  Today we finished them in 30 minutes.  I guess I'm getting better.  Next year, I'm aiming for 20 minutes.

Here is a pic of my DD's dress and basket.  Never again will I sew stretchy satin.  I hate that stuff.

Mar. 20, 2008 - Little Additions to the Family
Posted in Just Talk

Quick post to show off our little cuties.  DH and I had to run into town to get new tires on one of the work vehicles.  Needless to say, we came home with way more than that.  We bought two ducklings and six bantam chickies.  He told me to only get five, but they had two colors.  I asked the kids which one we should get more of and they couldn't decide....so we got three of each.

Right now they live in a cage in our house.  We hadn't got the coup finished yet.  I think they are warmer in here anyways.   I'm going tomorrow to try and get some more.  We wanted the bigger chickens.

So, does this make us farmers now?

Feb. 29, 2008 - Chopstick Problems
Posted in Just Talk

Can someone out there in blogland read Chinese?

The kids came back from their Aunt's house with a package of chopsticks.  I tell you they have mastered using them. ( KUDOS...I could use them to sharpen my sewing corners.  That's about it.)

DS2 has been online looking for anyway to translate the letters on the chopsticks.  If anyone can tell him the answer, I would be eternally grateful.  I'm tired of him asking me over and over and over... You get the point.

Here is a scanned picture of the word(s).

Thanks in advance...
