We had mama's birthday party today. It was nice to see everyone but it was so strange to do it without her. It just did not seem right. We had been planning to do this for awhile because she had been doing so well. The night before her party she was admitted to the hospital and is now in ICU. After everyone ate they went to visit her at the hospital.

On January 20, 2009 the children and I watched the 2009 Presidential Inauguration on and off during the day. We also completed a lesson on Presidential Inaugurations using the Lap and Note Book from Gearforlearning. I got this product for free from CurrClick. As of today you can still get it for free but its still very reasonably priced. My children now know more then I ever did about this event. Here is a link to a 30 minute video online about all the past inaugurations- Inauguration History.
We worked on this project most of the day. Of course we had to take lots of breaks to play in the snow. Snow is rare for us and we must enjoy it when we are blessed with it.

I just have to share our first week of school with you!! Most of this was Jonathan’s school but you know we have to all get involved. Our book for the week was Blueberries for Sal and the ideas for our lessons came from BFIAR. On Monday: We had a one-day community project. We went to a blueberry farm in Cameron to glean their fields and help clean it for next season. The blueberries that were picked were split between the food bank and us. After picking we took the blueberries to the food bank and had a tour of the food bank. We also made a “cookbook” for items to make with blueberries. And, of course we had to try out some of the recipes. Picking with Friends makes it go by so much faster plus its Better!!
OK.... Did I say we were blueberry picking?? Maybe I meant we were blueberry eating...
Here is one of the pictures from the food bank. That is a lot of cereal - and they need help sorting it.
On Tuesday: We began our lap book for Blueberries for Sal. I introduced the letter B to JJ and the sound it makes. Then we discussed the animals in the book: Birds and Bears. I had him find the Partridge, Crow, and Bear in the story.
On Wednesday: We did our math activity. Counting berries – I only worked with counting to 5 with him. He would draw a number from 1-5 and place that number above his bucket. Then he would place that amount of berries in his bucket. Of course we had to make the right sound. When he was done with this game we put all the berries in the bucket and talked about why there was no more sound when dropping the berries in. He would say his bucket was always like Sal’s. (He loves playing this game!!)
On Thursday: We did the classification activity and made the book “Are You My Mother”. Which is where he had to match the mommy Bear, Partridge, Crow, and me; with the babies: Bear, Partridge, Crow, and him. In this picture the “Are You My Mother” book is open. Also on the right side is his blueberry painting picture.
On Friday: We painted with blueberries. Jonathan just painted with the blueberry juice. The older children did two projects. 1st they drew a picture with a pencil then they painted it only using the blueberry paint. 2nd they drew a picture and colored it with crayons. Then they painted over the whole picture with the blueberry paint. Making Blueberry paint

For Spring Break we went to the zoo. I know I am a little late putting the pictures up
I have decided this year we are going to study animals and their classification for science. The children are just naturally interested. So.... we will have to make more trips to the zoo just to see the animals we are studying.
By the way this was Jon's first time to the zoo. It was so fun to watch him.

The Lord has truly blessed us!! Greg and I have been married 15 years – on the 21st. God truly blessed me 17 years ago when he brought Greg into my life!! For our anniversary he made arrangements for his dad to watch the children so we could go away together. We dropped the children off in SC and went on to visit Charleston, SC. The first night we were there we went down by the harbor. I could have gone home then and been happy. There were so many dolphins!! I have seen dolphins before at Sea World but to see them here was like seeing them for the first time.

JJ's first lapbook. He just turned 3 this month and I never would have thought he was ready. But, we were doing science with a friend and it was her day to teach. She brought "Rock Men" for the little ones to put together and Jonathan LOVED it! He wanted MORE!! So I decided to do something with his favorite book. Goodnight Moon. Amanda and I worked with him on this. Amanda is a very good teacher!!

Here are some pictures from Amanda's dance competition in Lenoir. I was not allowed to take pictures while she was on stage so back stage will have to do. It was a long day and Lenoir is the smallest of the three regional events that she will take part in this year. As Amanda and I were driving to the competition we got to wave at the mountains! By this time the sun was up but it was still beautiful!! We had to get up EARLY - before the sun.
Getting Ready I have only had someone do my hair and makeup once - for my wedding - what a treat!
Having a Good time!!
Ready to go!!
They got a gold for Bomshel Stomp!!

Earlier in the year we did a study of dinosaurs from a creation point of view. We took our lessons from the home school share site. Dinosaurs were made on day six!!
A Velociraptor was 6 feet tall
A Utahraptor was 20 feet tall
Triceratops and Stegosaurus were 25 feet tall
Iguanodon was 33 feet tall
T- Rex was 40 feet tall
Apatosaurus was 90 Feet Tall
Fossils we made
We also made the dinosaur eggs but Greg threw them away before I could take the children's pictures with them. |

When the tress started changing colors we did a study on leaves and trees with some friends. I know it has taken me a while to load!! For the cover we crushed crayons and melted it between wax paper. Then we traced leaves and cut the wax paper into shapes of leaves. They were suppose to have a sample of an entire, toothed, and lobed leaf.
The next pictures is just a picture of their folder open.
On the left hand side we put our book for the leaf margins. This book is the one open below. We have a picture of a leaf with the parts labeled. The bottom part with the flap up is a picture of the process of photosynthesis and a pressed leaf. When we open the bottom flap you will see the paper they made. Once they made the paper and it dried they cut it into the shape of a tree and wrote Psalm 1:3 on it. The other side of the flap holds a matching game. The pictures are of leaves that are named. For example: Eastern Cottonwood, Elm leaf, Elderberry, Aspen, etc.
The next set of pictures will be from the right side of their folded. On this side they have a tree trunk labeled, Voc words, Different types of trees: Deciduous, Evergreen, Conifer, a tree obersvation log, and the poem The Road Not Taken.
The last picture is the back cover. They drew the trunk using their hand and arm. The leaves are their hands.
