As Life Goes On

• Mar. 15, 2009 - New toys

H went to the flea market yesterday and called to tell me that a guy was there selling airsoft guns.  So he came home and picked us up and took us all to the flea market so each of the boys could pick out the gun they wanted.

LV went to a birthday party right after we went to the flea market, but he did get his own gun.  I just don't have any pictures of him yet.

• Mar. 11, 2009 - Things

A few funnies to share.

The other night LM was crying in the tub because he "hit his pimple."    Because he was holding his head I asked, "Do you mean your temple?"  "Yeah.  I hit my temple."

All 3 boys were playing with stuffed animals when LM came to show me his stuffed dog, Thomas, was wearing "schnausel armor."  He had taken a mask for a doll, and wrapped it around the dog from nose to tail.  I wish I had taken a picture.  It was so creative!

Then D decided to try on the clothes for a bear my mom made LV for his 1st birthday (that was 10 yrs ago).  He has done this before, but since he is closing in on 8 years of age, they wouldn't fit him anymore.  Here he is in the Santa costume, holding the poor bare bear.

Because that got a good laugh from everybody, he had to put on the toy soldier outfit.  Shoes and all.

Fun times.

We recently took the mattress off the top bunk, since it never gets used, and decided to replace it with a train table.  So LV has been working a lot up there setting up and HO scale train set.  And having a blast!

Yesterday I was sitting on the couch in the living room, reading my Bible, enjoying the peace and quiet before the boys woke up, when D came out and snuggled up next to me.  He saw that I was reading my Bible, so he ran in and got his and came back to join me.  He sat and read the book of Jonah (we just studied Jonah last week) while I was having my quiet time.

This picture just makes my heart glad.

I can only imagine how God feels when he sees us in His Word.

• Feb. 21, 2009 - So much goin' on

I have been so blessed in the last month or so, it is amazing.

A week ago Wed. we drove to Sac to look at vans for me.  Mine was starting to have numerous problems and it was time to upgrade.  We found one in Davis and H managed to haggle with the guys at the dealership and got a great deal!  BTW, we never buy new vehicles.  We always go with used.  So on the way home D kept telling his brothers that they couldn't trash the new van.  And they have done a great job of keeping it clean!  I think they are proud of it.

Then the day before Valentine's Day I got a new camera!  Yep.  My 5D!  H told me that he had a few on e-bay he was watching so as to get the best deal possible.  Thursday night when we went to bed he asked me to make sure I got to the PO on Friday because he had some shocks coming in for one of the cars he was working on.  Well, Friday the mail lady shows up with the package.  I called H to tell him his shacks had arrived and he told me he would be home right away to get them.   When he got home he had a dozen bright pink roses for me.  Of course I had to harass him about it not being Valentine's Day yet.  As he was puting the roses in a vase, he told LV he could go ahead and open the package, but he had to be careful.  I was standing there watching the 2 of them and chatting with H, when all of the sudden LV exclaims, "A camera!"  I thought he was joking!   He knew I was wanting one.  Then H made some sarcastic remark about how it couldn't be a camera.  I was so excited!  I have been playing with it, and will need to start posting pics. to this blog ASAP!

Wednesday morning H and I were awakened at 5:30 by LV screaming for me.  We ran into his room to find him in his bed crying.  He had rolled over in his sleep and hit his face on the (very) sharp corner of his night stand (we have got to do something about those darned things.), and it left a good little shiner.  I gave him a pack of ice and he managed to get back to sleep.  By the time he woke up later that morning he had a good little war wound.  I am so thankful he missed his eye.  It was pretty close.

I was so happy to see the sun the past couple of days.  It has been rainy and cold, which is not good here this time of year.  The almond trees are blooming and they need good weather so the bees can pollinate.  We are in a drought, but it is not the best time to get the much needed rain.  Today was beautiful, and it smells wonderful, but we are supposed to get more rain tonight and for the next week.  Pray for the farmers here.

I hope to be a better blogger, especially when I get more comfortable with my camera and have some photos to post!

• Feb. 6, 2009 - Humor

I have gotten sucked into the world of facebook, so now I am rarely here to blog.  I have been trying to spend less time on the computer as it is.  But there are some stories that need to be written down.

That said, my boys have been cracking me up lately (in more ways than one).  LM and D were in their room playing the other day when I overheard this conversation.

D:  "I wish Mom would have another baby.  I want Mom to have a baby."

LM: " Why?"

D:  ""Cause I wanna know what it's like to have a baby around."

LM:  "No, D.  Babies are a lot of work!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Now, I live in a house with 4 males.  There is a lot of gas passing around here, and they find a lot of humor in it.  And D can fart on command.  So D is brushing his hair the other day and lets one go and starts laughing.  He says, "You should have named me Fart Boy.  Hah Mom.  Or Farts-a-lot."  Yep.  I should have, Fart Boy.

What will I do with them?  Love 'em, I guess.

• Jan. 15, 2009 - Exciting things are happening

So far this year has been an exciting one for us.  H sold a car right after Christmas, then another one tonight!  It feels good to be able to get the bills paid.  And we are so thankful to the Lord for His constant provision.  I look back and am in awe at how He has provided for us at times!  Amazing.  So, it looks like we may get to take that trip to Disneyland here in the not-too-distant future.  The boys are excited about that.

Last weekend I spent 3 days at a Swim Coaching Clinic, and learned so much.  I took pages of notes, and now I am really looking forward to this summer of coaching.  I have a much better idea of what I want for this team, and even for my own boys.

Tonight was the big Pinewood Derby race for cub scouts.  Since H was out of town, the boys did almost all of the work on the cars themselves.  Which I know this is how it should be, but it would have been nice to at least have Dad around to help align the wheels correctly.  I told the boys that this would be a great learning experience for them.  LV had a lot of struggles, mostly due to his lack of patience.  He painted his car 4 or 5 times, maybe even more.  At first he forgot H's tips on masking off a car when painting.  Then he didn't wait long enough for the paint to dry before putting on his decals.  After repainting it another time he got the bottom pretty wet.  We set the car by the wood stove to dry, and he didn't realize the top was still wet when he turned the car over to dry the bottom.  Of course the newspaper stuck to the top of his car, so he had to paint it yet again.  He was taking all of this pretty well, but then put the wheels on the car, and the wood split off by 2 axels and the wheels would not stay on his car!  He had had it at that point.  But was still going to give it a shot until he tried to put the decals on again.  The paint was still not dry enough, and began to peel off with the decal backing.  Poor guy.  The cubmaster was nice enough to let him race with last years car, so he was  thrilled he got to race!  I'm sure he learned a lot from all of this.

Anyway, on to tonight's race.  None of the boys did exceptionally well as far as placement is concerned.  But they all had a great time.  LM struggled with his attitude a bit after loosing both rounds and not being able to advance.  That is something he needs to learn to deal with is disappointment.  He struggles with that.  LV just went out and had fun.  D won his first race, and lost his second.  But he was given the best sportsmanship award for the secong year in a row.  The cubmaster said that because he got it last year they were looking for somebody else to give it to, but D's sportsmanship was so far above everybody else's they had to award it to him.  And they make sure they make a big deal out of that award.  It is the second biggest award next to the champion.  So it is very special.

Of course I did not get any photos tonight because my camera battery died.  Grrrrrr...  One mom was kind enough to take a photo of the boys together for me, so I will at least have that.

Hopefully I will have a new camera pretty soon.

• Jan. 3, 2009 - New Years, & a birthday.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Well, 2009 is here.  It should be an interesting year.

After yet another lazy morning working on our puzzle, H and I took the boys to his aunt and uncle's house for their annual New Year's Day party.  Most of the people there we didn't know, but we got to visit with a few cousins at least.  After that, we headed over to a friend's house, and visited there for a few more hours before heading home.

Then, because we haven't celebrated enough the past couple of weeks, LV turned 11 yesterday!  Hard to believe!  We had the traditional donuts for breakfast, then had lunch at IHOP with my parents and grandparents.  We invited Morgan, but she was busy. My mom told the waitress that it was LV"s b-day, so she brought him extra fries with his meal, then a HUGE sunday afterwards.  He was full, and his brothers were kind enough to help him eat his ice cream.  My grandparents had to leave right after lunch because it was starting to rain, and they are not comfortable driving in the rain. Then we headed over to Game Stop so the birthday boy could blow his wad of $$$ he was given.  The boys and I spent the rest of the afternoon at home while H went to the shop.  For dinner we picked up a pizza and took it over to Brad's house, where the boys played on his Wii, and the grown-ups played card games.  Morgan and her boyfriend stopped by for a bit and hung out with us.  It was a fun time.

Now things will start settling down and getting back to normal.  The decorations are still up, but I don't plan on taking them down until the 6th.  Maybe next year I will do something special for the boys for the 12 days of Christmas.  I have a while to plan it.

• Jan. 1, 2009 - Dec. 28th-31st

28th: We just hung out around the house doing nothing too exciting.  Played with new toys   I worked on my coaching test some more.

29th: The boys and I went to my parents' house for dinner.  H had to work, so we brought him leftovers.  My mom made carnitas.  They were yummy.  And I finally gave my dad his Christmas present!  It was a hit.

30th:  More of the same lounging and being lazy.

31st:  We opted to hang out at home, watch "Facing the Giants", play Flipping Frogs, and work on a big ol' puzzle.  Oh, and eat more junk food, since we hadn't had enough over Christmas.  The boys did go to bed at 11, and we were not too far behind.  But it was a fun family night.  I forgot to mention, H sat in front of his computer watching an auction of his close on e-bay.

Good-bye 2008!

Hello 2009!

• Dec. 27, 2008 - Dec. 26th & 27th

26th:  The boys talked me into taking them shopping because their gift cards were burning holes in their pockets.  It was crazy!  There were so many people out trying to get a good deal.   LV bought 2 DS games, LM bought an Indiana Jones LEGO set, and D bought 1 DS game.  They were happy little campers when they got home.  It was pizza night, so we picked up a pizza on the way home, and they sat and ate pizza, watched Mythbusters, and played with their new stuff until bedtime.

27th:  I shined my sink!  I need to get back into a cleaning routine, so I decided to get back on board with Flylady.   I worked on our calendar some more and did laundry.  Church was tonight also.  watched my coaching video and learned a few new things.

• Dec. 25, 2008 - CHRISTmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

It was a great day today.  D came in at 7:30 saying, "Wake up!  It's Christmas!"  and he was still wearing the bathrobe he received from Missy and Lulubelle for Christmas.  H and I got dressed, and joinged the boys in the living room.  They are so good at waiting patiently when it comes to opening presents on Christmas morning.  Money was very tight this year, so there wasn't much under the tree for them, but nobody complained.  They each got an art set, a new DS game, and other little things in their stockings.

They spent the rest of the day playing with their new gifts.  H finished the frame he was working on for my dad, and I started making the '09 calendar.  Ole came by in the afternoon with new John Deer shirts for each of the boys.  It was a nice visit with him.  Morgan came over with her new boyfriend aroud dinner time.  They didn't stay long as they had 4 more places to go.  But she gave each of the boys a $25 gift card.

Before bed we did more advent reading (it goes through Dec. 31st), and read more of  "A Christmas Carol."

It was a blessed day.

• Dec. 24, 2008 - Dec 24th

Christmas Eve is here!

We went to Grandma & Grandpa's to celebrate with the family.  It was supposed to be a big Christmas this year, but Jon's family was sick, Corey got sick on the way and had to go home with his family, Becky and David arrived late, and Wyatt had to leave early.  Life happens.  I just know that we don't have too many more of these big Christmases left.  Every year is special.

Grandma & Grandpa liked their CEIVA frame.  I think they really liked it once H and I got it up and running.  I sent a Christmas greeting to it tonight, so they should be surprised with it in the morning.  Of course the boys had a great time.  They got some fun gifts.  LV was stoked to get a chemistry set from his Nana & Grandpa L.

The gifts are wrapped and under the tree.  The boys are asleep by the tree.  Such a sweet sight.  And I am falling asleep, so I am off to bed.

ETA:  It was raining, and we mostly gathered in the covered patio area.  It was great being warm and dry listening to the rain come down.
