performances

So far we have done 4 performances of Fiddler on the Roof. It's been very fun. We only have 3 performances left.  I'm going to miss my fellow actors - especially Megan, Clair, Liz, Dakota, Josh, Cameron, Ingrid, Farrah, Hannah, -- nearly all the young people! My older sister says that's a fact of life. Well, it's one fact I don't like.

My favorite scene is either the dream or the rumor. In the dream, we all get to scream and run around wildly-- and that's fun. In the rumor, my mom is singing, and it's a funny scene, so I like it as well.

Signing off,

Moriah

2nd part & update

Okay! We got in---all of us! Mommy is Shaindel, Motel's mother. Hannah is Tzeitel, the oldest daughter. And Sarah and I are villagers.

Here's the second part of "Ronald Rabbit and Theresa Turtle":

Leonard Lion condescended to the position shouting out the winner. Sir Stanley Snail ascended to the position of presenting the medal. Benjamin Bear took a writer’s pad and a timekeeper so that his judging would be fair. Orpheus Owl finally agreed to fly Theresa Turtle to the head of the forest trail. Everything was ready.

“Equipped?” thundered Leonard Lion. “Stand on your toe-hole, gear up, GO!”

Ronald Rabbit yelled “Speed and Success!”, flipped his downy tail, and leapt. Concurrently, Theresa Turtle stated “Slow and Steady”, loosened her shell, and hobbled away.

Theresa Turtle calmly rattled along the forest trail. She never stopped or meandered away from the well-marked trail. She did not avoid the mucky mud, the rough rocks, or the prickly bushes.

Ronald Rabbit proudly bounded down the forest trail. He paused occasionally to eat a wild carrot. He leapt over the mucky mud, sprang around the rough rocks, and hopped over the prickly bushes. Soon he felt very confident and stopped at a wild carrot patch. He nibbled and gobbled a large carrot meal until he felt stuffed.

“I’ll take a tiny after dinner nap,” he muttered as he flopped on the green grass and fell asleep.

Theresa Turtle eventually shambled past Ronald Rabbit. She laughed noiselessly at the rabbit’s snores. She began the swampy part of the trail.

Ronald Rabbit awoke half-an-hour later and saw the sun. “Uh-oh!” he squealed. “Theresa Turtle must be drawing close.” He flew up and shot down the trail. Soon he noticed the swampy tracks of Theresa Turtle. “She’s ahead!” Hastily, he gained the distance and passed Theresa Turtle with a snicker.

At the end of the swamp, Fanny and Felicia Frog were hopping. Ronald Rabbit stopped to brag. “Hey, frog failures. I’m winning a race—and I can beat you at hopping, too.”

Felicia Frog hopped across a water strand.

“That’s just a tiny hop,” mocked Ronald Rabbit. “See me!” He hopped across a big puddle. Fanny Frog tried the hop and scrambled out of the muddy water as a result.

Ronald Rabbit began showing off by leaping over decaying logs and across larger puddles. The frogs followed him. They went back into the swamp.

Theresa Turtle bypassed the rest of the swamp and began going across the last part.

After Ronald Rabbit finished showing off, he hopped on and then stopped to debate with tame bunny- Benny Bunny.

Theresa Turtle saw the finish line. She was surprised when the animals began cheering her.

“So that’s why wild rabbits are better than tame bunnies!” Ronald Rabbit concluded to bored Benny Bunny.

“If you’re so better than me,” Benny Bunny said, “then why are all the animals at the finish line celebrating Theresa Turtle’s nearing arrival?”

Ronald Rabbit perked his pink ear and heard the cheers. “Bye!” he hollered, springing away.

Theresa Turtle did not slow or speed even though she felt the pounds from Ronald Rabbit’s feet coming through the ground. She gained the goal and snapped the ribbon. Ronald Rabbit raced through three seconds later.

Benjamin Bear growled his determination of who won to Leonard Lion. “I declare!” roared Leonard Lion, “that Theresa Turtle has won the Forest Trail Race!”

The animals screamed, cheered, and applauded.

“Here is the medal,” said Sir Stanley Snail. “I expected you to win, so I engraved “Slow and Steady” on it. It’s my motto, too.”

Charity Cheetah slyly grinned at Ronald Rabbit. “Now do you admit your folly of pride?”

auditions

Yesterday, I wrote the following for a blog post:

Last February, I started wanting to a play with our local theater group. However, the ones they were doing at that time were not godly. I checked once in a while throughout the spring to see if there were any better ones that I would want to do coming up. Lo and behold, one May day, I discovered they would be doing Fiddler on the Roof in September!

I raced upstairs and delivered the news to Rebekah-then 16 and Hannah-14. We immediately agreed to do it. However, Rebekah’s mission trip to Scotland coincided with the practices—and she would be leaving the morning of the first audition day.

Yesterday, Hannah and I did singing auditions. Hannah sang “This Land is Your Land” and I sang “Take my Life”. Before we entered where we were to audition, I asked Mommy if she would audition. Mommy declined, saying she had much to do. Nevertheless, during the auditions, Mommy spontaneously decided to audition! I was and am so proud of her!!! She sang a praise chorus.

Then we did the dancing auditions. Everyone auditioning had to do a crowd-dance (the men’s part). The judges were looking for coordination. Well… I’m not sure if I looked perfectly coordinated. Actually, I probably didn’t.

Most of the people auditioning were girls or women. There were only a few boys and only one man. After being told to come back tomorrow for the reading auditions, we left. The reading auditions are this evening. I decided auditions are fun.

I told Mommy that somebody might ask Daddy to audition (he was with us). She did not have the same supposition. However, somebody did suggest Daddy audition—to be the tailor. But, Daddy could not because of his work.

Sarah-12 wanted to do the auditions, but was needed to help watch Havilah, my autistic sister. Mommy solved that problem today by presenting a “Business Proposition” to another of my sisters, Hosannah and two of my brothers- which was that Hosannah and those two brothers would get paid to watch Havilah. Thus, Sarah will be coming tonight.

I hope I get in. I hope Sarah, Hannah, and Mommy (especially) will get in. It would be so wonderful and fun to do this with Mommy! She gave me courage to audition by auditioning; I guess I’ll get the same kind of courage in the practices and performance—if I get in.

                -Moriah

We did the reading auditions last night, and some people did the singing auditions, including Sarah. More men came—needed desperately. It was mostly women the first night. We are to be called back today with information as whether we are in the play or not. Well, we increased our odds of a Vickery getting in the Fiddler on the Roof play by Mommy and Sarah also auditioning. It would be odd if none of us got even in a crowd scene.

 Waiting for the call

I’m telling ya’ll

Is making me impatient

A mood that is quite ancient

That isn’t much good poetry—okay, it’s not so good at all. However, it rhymes and has some meter to it.  We have dial-up Internet, so we must stay off-line or risk missing the call. But, what’s five minutes to post this? I’m writing it all on Microsoft Word. Okay, I’m rambling.

Bu-bye,

Moriah

camp and chores

Hosannah and Sarah are at camp for a week. Thus, the three oldest girls and the oldest brother are deluged with extra chores. Babysitting and dishes, majorly. Well, hopefully the two off at camp will be grateful.

A Highlight of Today

He, he, he, he! I managed to trick Rebekah and Hannah today.  I told them I got a "very special magazine" (meaning Above Rubies, but knowing they would think it was the World Magazine). Well, Hannah asked me if she could read the comics. Ha, ha! I told her there were no comics in Above Rubies. I had to explain myself.

Then I hid it in the living room and told them whoever found it first could read it first. So, I played the piano while Rebekah and Hannah peeked under couches and searched the living room. They were acting so immature for once! Ah...

Then Hannah found it. I tried to grab it back but she told me a promise was a promise.  Thus, I had to let her have it.

Adios,

Moriah

The Purpose of History

The Purpose of History:

     1. From history we hear about other's mistakes and learn to avoid the same.

     2. From history we hear stories of God's works and it builds (or should build) our faith.

     3. By learning about history, we become witnesses of God's power and hand in history.

Part 2 will be coming

Hey, Nicholas, Part 2 will be coming. Actually I wrote a part 2 but then lost it.  I'll have to either rewrite it different or make up an entire new part 2. Either way, it will still be part 2.

It's 10:21 at night and Daddy, Mommy, Havilah, and Joshua are still up. We recently passed the time when you are supposed to switch your clocks around.

From a scripture card on the wall behind the laptop: "All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." MATTHEW 21:22.

A "Slow" Tortoise?

This is part of a story I wrote a little while ago. It's based on a folk-tale.

Once upon a time, a turtle beat a rabbit in a race. This was how it happened...

"I'm the fasted jogger, the highest hurdler, and the smartest guy around!" shouted Ronald Rabbit, hopping around. He made sure everyone heard him. "I challenge anyone to a race!"

Charity Cheetah snorted. "Oh, Ronald Rabbit, don't boast so. I can beat you in any sprint. I go up to 70 miles per hour!"

"But not for any race for more than so many hundred feet," Ronald Rabbit retorted. "I repeat my challenge. We'll race the forest trail."

The challenge swept throughout the forest like the news of a wildfire. Little squads of animals gathered. They chattered about the challenge and whispered about their desire to bring down Ronald Rabbit's pride.

"But who will do it?" enquired sleepy Orpheus Owl. "I can't. I do not run. Besides, I want to go back to sleep."

"I'll try," admitted pretty, young Delanie Doe, "but I'm scared of the bikers on the forest trail."

"I definitely won't even try," declared the Warren Wolf. "That irritating Ronald Rabbit dodges too quickly for me even to catch him. I'd never beat him in a race."

Theresa Turtle heard the challenge. She slowly began waddling to where Ronald Rabbit was boasting. A few hours later, she arrived. Ronald Rabbit was in the middle of an extravagant boast. "I'll leave my opponent in the dust, choking! I will speed ahead like lightning. I'll break the world's record."

     "Excuse me," Theresa Turtle said.

"Yes, my little Theresa Turtle friend? You certainly won't be challenging me!"

"I am," Theresa Turtle asserted. "Let's go to the start, Ronald Rabbit. I will do my best, and that is what counts. Slow and steady is my motto."

Ronald Rabbit chortled wildly. "That's hilarious!" he roared, "But you can believe that if you want. Speed and Success is my motto."

"I'll judge the event," growled Benjamin Bear. "Charity Cheetah, will you police the forest trail?"

      "Yes," said Charity Cheetah.

"I'll give advice," decided Orpheus Owl. "Run fast. Do well. Good night." He fell back asleep.

"I'll keep the little animals out of the way--no offense," Delanie Doe offered.

Warren Wolf lifted his head and gave a long, lonely howl. "I," he moaned, "will sit at the start and make sure they start off fair. Maybe Ronald Rabbit will donate a leg to Hungry Wolves of the Woods Incorporated. It is a fine charity. You can even get a tax deduction."

"No, no, definitely not, zilch, no chance," declared Ronald Rabbit hopping about with a sharp eye on Warren Wolf.

"Who will declare the winner?" asked Theresa Turtle. Ronald Rabbit chuckled. Of course he would win. However, he would kindly humor Theresa Turtle.

"I suppose," he said, "that Leonard Lion or even Sir Stanley Snail will condescend or ascend to that position, provided the animals don't run away or have to slowly trail behind."

"I am the judge," Benjamin Bear warned. "Don't appoint any others. Leonard Lion will have the honor of shouting out the winner. Sir Stanley Snail will present the medal."

Inaugaration and tag

Tomorrow's the Inaugaration.  I wonder if Rick Warren will pray in Jesus' name.  I want to see it on TV.

Okay, I'm going to make up a tag.  It might seem rather random.

1. What's your favorite day of the week and why?  Sunday (because we can go to meeting-house) or Wednesday (because my favorite show, Jack Van Impe Presents is on at night)

2. What are you most looking forward to in 2009? I don't know. Oh! I'm looking forward to going back to the Maine house.

3. What's one big wish for 2009? I wish I could go on this overseas trip going to different places where Paul evangelized

4. What's your favorite Left Behind book? I like the book Desecration.  I think it's the tenth.  I only read part of it so far.  But in it, Chloe is captured and martyred.

5. Make up a really wacky meal. A peanut butter, mayonaiise, mustard, egg, pickle, bologna, ham, turkey, lettuce, carrot, bean, cheese, tomato sandwich with a fruit salad and peppermint tea

6. What was the last kind of juice you drank? V8 vegetable and fruit juice

7. Have you ever been out of the United States? no

8. Name all the races you've been in or describe them. a bike race in N.H., the Stevenson Memorial Run, the Turkey Trot, the Christmas Classic

9. What's your favorite number? 7 or 15

10. Write three random things about yourself. (1) I washed my blankets today.  (2) I'm going to go listen to Adventures in Oddyssey.  (3) I like the color dark blue.

Yesterday

Yesterday was a wonderful day!  Daddy, Hosannah, Sarah, and I ran on a team in a Christmas Classic race.  The team didn't win, but everyone in our family who ran placed.  Daddy placed 2nd in his age group.  Hosannah placed 2nd in her age group as well; and Sarah, who was in the same age group, placed 3rd.  I placed fifth in my age group and surprised myself.

Caleb-8 ran a youth mile, and placed second overal and first in his age group.  Ethan-7 ran a quarter miler and came in first!  (He was so cute coming in.)

After the race there was free pizza.  YAY!  (Yahoo And Yum).  Then we watched the Christmas parade.  I took a bunch of pictures for Rebekah, who had stayed at home; and I collected candy.  (YAY again.)

That afternoon we went to see a play of Scrooge.  It was fun and interesting.  Most of the acters were really good.

Then we came home to half and inch of snow and the house partly decorated!

Yes, yesterday was a wonderful day.  Today has been a rather quiet day in comparison and in not comparison.  :)

tagged

I was finally tagged... by request.  So here's the tag.  I couldn't do it officially (cut and paste and such) so I had to do it manually.  (I tried.)

Hello!

I've never had my own personal blog before.  I've done one with my family called homeschoolfamily but this is my first one alone.  Setting it up took a few half hours.

I have 8 brothers and sisters.  Havilah (9, has autism) is on my lap right now, so I'm reaching around her to write.    We're going to watch The Raiders of the Lost Ark tonight.  I've never watched it before.

Okay, now I've said 'I've never' twice.  Perhaps I ought to have an 'I've always'.  Okay... Mm.  Well, I've always been a girl! (Does that count?)

Mommy is en route to South Dakota right now.  Her flight was supposed to leave at 10:30 this morning but was seriously delayed.  It was suggested she leave tomorrow, and Mommy was definitely not agreed to that!  Imagine spending 44 hours in an airport...

Havilah's hugging me right now.  Only it's not a real hug.  It's more of the following: grab your hair, press my cheek against your hair and smile sort of hug.
