The Garden Is In and Lots of Fabric Was Cut Today!
|
My dd's and I FINALLY were able to get our garden planted today. Over the weekend my dh worked extremely hard to get the correct soil mixture for my raided beds. After we tracked it all down (after going to too many stores), we laid out a tarp and started mixing it. I didn't realize how heavy soil is. We filled the 8 foot by 3 foot raised beds with about 8 inches of soil each. I don't know how many shovelfuls it took to get ALL of that soil into those raised beds, but we were sure tired and dirty when we finished. So today, my dd's and I sectioned off the beds into square feet. Then we took out the map I had made and began the task of planting 4 different types of beans, sweet peas, corn, two types of lettuce, two types of onions, beets, carrots, spinach, basil, cilantro, lavender, lemon balm, mint, sage, thyme, oregano, and one other herb I can't remember right off the top of my head. I will plant tomatoes later (I tried to start them in the house but couldn't get them past 4 inches tall). We had so much fun working together that after lunch we decided it was time to do some sewing too. So we went through "mom's" fabric stpre to choose our fabrics. Then decided on our patterns and begun the experience of cutting out 3 skirts, 3 vests and 3 jumpers. My dd's were busy choosing fabrics for the doll clothes they were planning on making. They chose the patterns and went through mom's scraps to choose just the perfect fabric for dresses, aprons, diapers, nighties and bonnets for their "babies". We spent the entire afternoon cutting and fitting and cutting some more. I couldn't imagine doing anything more rewarding. No tomorrow we will get to the sewing machine and begun the wonderful task of putting the cloth together and seeing our masterpieces come together. I thank God that He has given me the love of making clothes and for my family. I am also thankful for the ability to put seeds into the soil and watch them grow into something we will truly enjoy. What an awesome God we have!!! |
