   The Birthday Girl

Posted in Ponderings

Here are pictures from Alyssa's birthday.  We celebrated Saturday, although her birthday was actually Sunday.  Happy 5 Years Old to my sweet girl.

Of Jelly Beans and Chicken Sandwiches

Posted in Ponderings

We made an executive decision to close down over the weekend and run away.

We tried to get reservations for a factory tour of Mrs. Grossman's Stickers, but the only openings were for noon and there was no way we could have been in Petaluma before 1.  So we headed down the highway to Fairfield, where we toured the Jelly Belly Factory.  It was very fun and informative and we all enjoyed it (and ate way too many jelly beans!)

We spent the night in Fairfield and the next day walked around some stores that we've been missing since we left the city and then went to the Fairfield Solano Mall.  We had just one reason for hitting the mall, something I've been missing SO much since leaving Georgia.

The Chick-Fil-A Chicken Sandwich

I didn't know there was a location in Fairfield until I was doing online research before our trip.  I was so excited, as Chick-Fil-A is nearly impossible to find out West!  As I sat down to enjoy my sandwich and waffle cut fries, I couldn't help but get teary thinking about the southeast and our longings to return.  Alyssa opted to bypass the chicken and have Hot Dog On A Stick.  Seeing as the hot dogs there are 100% turkey, I'm sure the "Eat Mor Chikin" cows from Chick-Fil-A did not object.

After perusing the mall, getting a couple of pieces of chocolate from See's Candy, and letting Alyssa ride on the carousel with Daddy, we didn't feel much like driving home.  So we headed to Vacaville and walked around the outlet mall.  I got a deal on a pair of New Balance tennis shoes (the very worn out shoes I was wearing were KILLING my feet!)  We decided to stay the night in Vacaville and enjoyed an awesome dinner at Tahoe Joe's.

The following day we grabbed lunch at In-N-Out Burger and spent the next couple of hours visiting farms in Suisun Valley.  It was "Fun Family Farm Day", so there were lots of kid friendly activities.  At a kiwi farm, Alyssa had her hand painted (she wasn't going for face painting!) and made a pinecone bird feeder with peanutbutter and birdseed.  At another farm, she planted a bean in a little clay pot that she decorated, picked tomatoes and zinnias, and petted a llama.  At another farm, we learned "Where Dried Fruits Come From", sampled lots of goodies, and made our own trail mix.  YUM!  We also got to briefly visit a fourth farm that had beautiful gardens and a little produce stand, along with a watercolor artist painting and selling previous works.  It was brief because it was right about that time that Alyssa decided it was time to have a fit, so we loaded up and headed home.  I forgot the card to my digital camera, so I had to use my film camera and the photos won't be back until tomorrow.  I'll try to post some if any turned out good.

We have a busy weekend with the Labor Day holiday and have two showings on Wednesday.  Please keep us in your prayers!

Cleaning and Showings and Visitors, OH MY!

Posted in Ponderings

Busy busy around here.  We had a showing Wednesday that seemed to go very well.  We were to have one Thursday, but they had to reschedule.  We have another showing next week, another Sept. 6 and we're getting ready to schedule another person for that same week.  Business in August has picked up and that is good, of course!  So I've been cleaning our house for showings and cottages for guests.  Grandma Jean and Papa Walt are here visiting (since Wednesday).  Last night we went to the Broiler Steakhouse in Redwood Valley and ate WAY too much (and didn't save room for dessert!)  About two years ago, I made my grandma a beaded necklace and earrings for Christmas and she got the beading bug.  She is currently working on a bracelet for me that takes 1200 beads!  She's showing me how to do it.  Takes MANY hours.  But the effect is beautiful.

I believe they are continuing on their road trip tomorrow (from Arizona to California, Oregon, Montana and then back.)

They bought Alyssa a Schwinn bicycle, which she loves, but has no idea how to pedal LOL  Pictures to follow...

Please continue to keep us in your prayers.  We are hopeful that one of these interested parties will buy.  We're ready to put California behind us, Lord willing.
