• May. 1, 2009 - Show and Tell Friday - My Paper Dolls
These are SOME of my paper dolls. I have many, many more - probably a thousand. I've made most of these myself.
Next I have a closeup picture.
These next are of a mermaid I got from the computer. The one on the left is the original, then I have made more versions of her, like on the right...
I hope you enjoyed my show and tell Friday. If you would like to see more show and tells or participate yourself, head on over to www.homeschoolblogger.com/canadagirl and join in the fun!
• Apr. 24, 2009 - A Book Report about Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi
For my show and tell today, I am going to tell you about the book I read this week.I read Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi.
I think this book is one of my favorite books now.I wanted to read every single chapter in one day!(I didn’t, but it was that good!).This story of Pinocchio is different than the one that you may have heard, because he was a much naughtier boy puppet. He started out as being a very bad puppet from the beginning. He got into a lot of mischief.More than in the other stories.Poor Geppetto.
Here is my narration of the last chapter. If you want to read the story and not have the ending spoiled for you, then you may not want to read this…
The Last Chapter
Pinocchio and his papa swam to the surface of the ocean. There they met the little Tunny who guided them to an island.
Soon, after a long rest, they saw a small hut, and in the hut they met an old friend, the Talking Cricket.
But that day Pinocchio heard that the little blue-haired fairy was close to death, so he sent all his money he had (forty cents) to help her.
The next day he awoke to see he had become a real boy!
In his pocket he found a little purse that had little words on it that said, “This purse holds the gift that Pinocchio sent to the little fairy with blue hair.”
He looked in the purse to see, instead of forty pennies he saw forty gold coins!
His papa told him that bad boys (and puppets) turn into donkeys, but if they learn to do good to others they (the puppets) will become real, trustworthy boys.
The first two are SnowCrystal and I at a playground near our house. The third one is of me behind a neat, twisted tree at the same playground.
That morning I went with my dad to a ministry called Sharing Ministries and volunteered with him. It was all about getting food ready to give away to poor people. The people sign up for the ministry and come in and get a box of food for free each month. I used a sharpie and marked out UPC symbols on the donated food so that it couldn't be brought back to the store for money. It was fun.
I'm sorry that I haven't written for a long time. I'm beginning a new school year. We'll be on our sixth week next week. My favorite part is math right at the moment (believe it or not!). In math I am doing decimals - adding and subtracting numbers with decimals. It is really fun - if you haven't tried it, ask your mom if you can. Next month I will have my 11th birthday. It is the most exciting thing I can think of. I'm getting old!
• May. 8, 2008 - "Dead Then Alive" By MountainPrincess.
Once upon a time, a young female kangaroo sat under a big, shady tree. She was happy as a cricket. "Hey, Hopsey!" said a young male named Bounder. "You wanna race down to the water hole and back?" Hopsey thought for a minute or two then said, "How 'bout a nap?" Bounder said yes even though he wanted to race. They didn't nap long. The sound of danger woke them up! When a kangaroo taps one of its big feet hard and fast, it is the warning of danger. Hopsey jumped to her feet, Uncle Joey was warning of danger! Seven hungry wolves were prowling around Aunt Goldy! Quickly, Aunt Goldy, Hopsey and most of the kangaroos bounded away faster then deer. Hopsey looked about, Bounder was nowhere in sight! "Where is Bounder?" she asked. Nobody knew. They bounded back. The wolves had gone away. "Look," said a joey. "Blood!" Hopsey cried out for her best friend, Bounder. No voice of Bounder was heard. "He must be dead," said Aunt Goldy. The other kangaroos agreed. They all left, but not Hopsey. She was too sad. Then a voice that sounded like Bounder's voice made her look in front of her. There, sitting in the shade of the tree was Bounder! His left leg was bleeding! "I am fine," he said. Hopsey jumped away and told the others. They all came back. Hopsey and Bounder became mates and they lived happily with their two joeys ever after.
How's everything goin' at your blogs? I am doing fine here, but my mom wouldn't let me get a pet on my blog. I'm not sure yet what animal I would like though.
" I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what light I have."
This was my copy work and typing lesson for today.
My math was ok and I had fun on my reading about "Sarah Witcher's Story." Sarah was a little girl about 4 years of age and one day she ran off into the forest. Guess what? Sarah was lost for lots of days!
If you want to hear the rest look in your library for " Sarah Witcher's Story" by Elizabeth Yates.
You past the gardener's shedand you just keep straight ahead -
I do so hope they've come to stay.
There's a little wood with moss in it and beetles,
And a little stream that quietly runs through;
You wouldn't think they'd dare to come merry-making there-
Well, they do.
The End
I had to write this verse of this poem for my copywork today, and I needed to practice my typing today too, so I decided to put it on my blog with a picture. For more show and tells, go to Canadagirl's blog.
I am sorry I didn't type for a long time. I was busy with my school work. How was your Easter? Mine well, it was fine. I do not mean to brag but I got a new polly pocket on Easter morning. It had a turtle, a cat and a dog.
This is my journal of life in the high mountains and other places. I am an 11 year old girl, who is the oldest in my family. I love to play outside, read, draw, and write stories. We live in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, where the snow gets really deep.
