November 12, 2007 - Saints and Souls

In the spirit of November, a month for gratitude and remembrance,

we made a "Saints and Souls Tree" in honor of three generations of deceased grand-parents,

our children's living godparents, and a few of the Saints who inspire our family.

These dear, smiling faces are a comforting reminder of Heaven as we enter this joyous time of blessing and thanksgiving. In the flurry of holiday preparations, we are mindful of the brief and beautiful time that we have on this earth, and of all that is of lasting value-- steadfast faith, kindness, and Love.

It is a simple thing really, just the graceful gesture of a tree branch and some reprinted photos.

Yet, the image is especially moving in the evening when a large candle--symbolizing the light of Christ-- is used to light a small votive for each loved one who has passed on.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord

And let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace

Amen.

This is so beautiful. We made a poster with names of our beloved departed...we pray for one each day ie:CHC "A Year with God" idea. This has been a beautiful thing to do for the first time this year. Definitely starting a new tradition. But we might make it more like yours next year.
