November 28, 2005 - Keeping Christmas: The First Sunday of Advent

I love the beautiful simplicity of the Advent wreath.

At suppertime, we take time to pause, light a candle, and reflect on this season of preparation and waiting.  And we become mindful of a gift

which is greater than human hands

can buy

or make.

We focus and reflect on The Light.

Jesus, The Great Light.

Last night, as we lit the first candle on our simple wreath, we read the words written hundreds of years before Jesus' birth:

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined."  Isaiah 9:2

Thank you, God, for sending the Light.
