..."the prevalent attitude is that the more information
and educational activities that are crammed into children's lives,
the more "advanced" youngsters will be...
We have got it all wrong. With all the stress and the too-much,
we snuff out life.
Motivation is quenched before it blossoms with questions and ideas."
For The Family's Sake
by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay

As the scramble begins (already!) to sign-up for next fall's classes and enrichment opportunities,
I'm gleaning fresh wisdom from one of my favorite mentors. Her writing speaks with greater
poignancy for me now, a mother of some experience, than when I first opened this book years ago.
As my children grow, the world offers them many, many tempting opportunities to stretch in ways
that can be life-affirming-- or dehumanizing.
I pray every day for true insight to discern the difference. |
